Tonight I installed a very spiffy Clark hammer bushing in my stainless Mk III rimfire pistol. The little bag it came in came with a warning against DIY installation unless you are comfortable with detail stripping the gun and doing a little hand fitting.

So I dove right in. Thanks to Bullseye's http://guntalk-online.com/ there are great pictorial instructions available. The bushing a snug fit in a stock Ruger hammer, and an ever so slightly interference fit in my Volquartsen target hammer. A little crocus cloth followed by some 1500 grit wet-or-dry with Mother's Mag polish made it work just right in the VQ hammer. Slick and slop free.

Somewhere along the line I must have lost *cough* *cough* the magazine disconnect, but fortunately the Clark bushing is only compatible with Mk II pistols, so by a stroke of dumb luck it works anyway, AND gun is now functionally identical to a Mk II. ;) Dry firing no longer requires a magazine inserted. Takedown no longer requires a magazine in the gun. Magazines drop free without having to pry them out. Not bad at all.

So yeah, if you have a Mk III and want to lose the mag disconnect, get a Clark bushing. If you can detail strip a Ruger Mk pistol, the minimal amount of hand fitting required is cake in comparison.

Update and range report: Previously, with just a VQ hammer and sear, the trigger still had a tiny amount of takeup. I wouldn't call it creep.... just pre-travel before the break.

Got enough rounds through the Clark bushing now, that I readjusted the trigger's pre-travel. (If you take out too much pre travel in the Ruger Mk trigger it can fail to reset). Well thanks to the new bushing I was able to pull the last bit of pre travel out of the trigger. It's crazy... from fully forward to overtravel stop, the trigger moves maybe 1/16 tops, and you can still feel the break perfectly.

This isn't the ideal trigger setup if you want a training pistol to complement your CCW piece, but for target shooting it. is. awesome.
