Well the Canadian ross rifle was so bad in ww1 that Canadian soldiers were seen having to kick open the action every shot during a German offensive.
With the Chauchaut.....the French were thinking like French people do. However, America could have issued the BAR in 1918 but tried to keep it a secret and issued that gun instead kept with the French POS till the end of the war for the most part.
