Woman Raped At Knifepoint While Daughter Held Nearby
Police Looking For 2 Men

WASHINGTON -- D.C. police are looking for two men who they said attacked a woman leaving a fast food restaurant in Northeast.

"What we have is two individuals that need to be taken off the street as soon as possible," said D.C. police Capt. C.V. Morris.

According to police, at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, a 33-year-old woman and her 3-year-old daughter were getting something to eat at the Checkers at 14th Street and Maryland Avenue. As the walked down the 1300 block of G Street after they left the restaurant, two men followed them to the edge of an alley, where one man pulled out a knife, police said. The men forced the woman and her daughter into the alley.

In the alley, the man with the knife raped the woman while the other man held her daughter, police said.

"Both subjects then left the area, just walked away," Morris said.

Residents in the area told News4's Pat Collins that they are familiar with drug deals, prostitution and fights in the alley, but they were surprised to learn of a rape at knifepoint.

Anyone with information about the incident should call police at 202-727-9099.

Personal note: My fathers youngest sister has a house in this zone near where this attack occurred. I know exactly where the Checkers is that the victim was at. The neighborhood is not crazy with crime and is not Southeast DC. They do have crime there and it's not River or Reservoir Road but it's not Military or Riggs Road either. This is an otherwise nice uptown middle class neighborhood mostly inhabited by families. :(

I used to live off Riggs Road as well when I was young both on the DC side as well as on the PG side over in Hyattsville just south of College Park.
I went to Lewisdale Elementary school over that way. :)

In the day (early 70s) Riggs Road wasn't all that bad.
Then it went dangerous and down hill with the DC crack attack and the Rayful Edmunds crime cartel back in the early 80s.
As a single digit shorty I used to walk Riggs Road to the 7-11 and to school by myself. My mom gave me a knife and a homemade slingshot to carry for self defense in case of older kids, crazies (in those days Vietnam vets with mental issues) and perverts but otherwise it was generally safe.
Today I'd never allow my kids to walk that road alone even if they were 16 rather than 7 or 8. :(
