i saw one at big 5 for $319.00 + whatever fee's....i wanna know if this is a good shotgun and if thats a good price...

For as long as Winchester has an inventory. After that you will need to rely on places like Numrich. Shouldnt be an issue for atleast 10 years I would imagine. They made them forever and many of the older 1200 parts interchange.

I talked to the guys at cabbellas about this...they said that the winchester shotguns r still going to be in production for a while. Said they had a run on all the lever guns after the plants closed.

Guy at Cabelas is wrong. I saw an add for a public auction(In Gun List I think) to buy up the Winchester Plants machinery....its already come and gone. Production has ceased state side. All that is still in production is made by Winchester's brother FN owned company Browning in their Belgian plant or by their subidiary Miroku in Japan.

Only the semi autos and double barrels are being made since they were browning golds just with cosmetic differences. I double checked with a few wholesale distributor cause I hate to feed misinformation. The 1300 is done for unless you buy an FN police pump that uses the basic design. Same goes with the model 70 unless you buy an FN rifle.

The reason prices havent climbed much is that real winchester collectors wont buy any made after 64. Thats why you always hear pre and post 64 used when talking to them. Thats the year they consider Winchester went to hell and never bounced back.

ABOUT as good a price as I've ever seen. But just remember: Since WINCHESTER is now out of production, parts WILL BE "IFFY" - AT BEST - AND (are u ready?) BARRELS CANNOT BE REPLACED AT ANY PRICE!! Yes, thats what I said: BARRELS ARE NON-REPLACEABLE. Therefore, protect your BARREL from wear, either by "cryo-freezing" it like I did mine (re: 300BELOW http://www.300below.com/site/cryo_barrel.html) for just $75, or AT LEAST TREAT IT with MICROLON BARREL GUN TREATMENT (http://www.microlon.com/gun_metal_treatment.php?PHPSESSID=i31d4ocesvb36fo478fh88c9s3)

BOTH WILL KEEP YOUR BARREL 'LIKE-NU' VIRTUALLY FOREVER!!
