A thread on "the other place" got me thinking back to my college days. Had an old 870 that I kept loaded with 3 12ga signal flares, followed by 00Buck for the rest of the magazine.
Now admittedly, I only had to draw the weapon once, and never had to fire it, so I never really found out....
Will the signal flares sold at wally world or most hunting/boating stores actually penetrate clothing, and better yet, the human body?

I know they burn around 1700+ degrees if I remember correctly, so I'd think it would be like a really hot knife through butter, but again, I'm probably wrong.

If they did penatrate it would instantly cauterize any wound so no blood or deep injury, The whole reasion of home defence is to stop them. I have shot a few of these flares in 12Ga and in 37mm I would not think it would cause much dammage at all. They do come out with some force and it would hurt like hell but its not going to penatrate I sure would not want to get hit with one... especially in 37mm that would be like a brick.

other than 3rd degree burns and the smell of burnt flesh its hard to tell - the projectile doesnt weigh enough or have a high enough velocity i would imagine

Ages ago in a thread at OT on guns and weapons and shit I'd posted a link to an FBI forensics report toward wounds made via various weapons and one was a pic with detail toward a flare gun killing. It was ugly and looked like it hurt.
I'll try to find info on as much later tonight and post it here.

As well I swore off NASIOC and won't break my promise to myself so I can't go back there either. :\
