Why conceal weapons?

Wouldn't visible weapons be a better deterrent?

There was a big thing about that here in VA. A bunch of guys went to Starbucks or something with guns on their hip. It's hard not to be intimidated by that.

negative - u lose the element of surprise

plus u open yourself up to having your sidearm taken from you and used against you

Simple: if I'm carrying exposed, I'll be the first one hit by the criminal, before I can even respond.

It varies state-to-state. Not many allow "open carry". CCWer's wouldn't risk losing their CCW just to look like that dude.

Dude, I'm sorry, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I am a gun freak, hell, I live in TX.

I am always online researching gun type information. I just recently read, multiple articles, regarding interviews with violent convicts and inmates.
The question asked, "How do you feel about armed civilians?"

Well, something like 86 percent said that they would much rather come in contact with a Police officer rather than an armed civilian. Why? Because as civilians we don't have as many rules as law enforcement, plain and simple. Cops are trained to deal with suspects, civilians are not. A civilian, if threatened in a violent manner, doesn't have to draw thier gun and say "freeze", they can pull thier weapon and fire.

So, being that this is not new news, carrying a handgun in plain view would be the ultimate in deterrent. As far as someone getting a gun from you...well shiit man, why do cops carry thier weapons in plain site. It's about training and knowledge. If you know how to use your weapon, your brain and by being alert at all times, that gun is going to do one thing for you....save yo ass !!

Now if you were smart and had a concealed weapons permit you would have READ that you can carry the gun, unloaded or without a magazine in the gun when entering public or federal buildings, i think its illegal to go into a federal building ie: bank, police office...this only applies to citizens not police and other law enforcemetn personell.

i have a concealed weapons permit, im only 19, and i really dont have a use for it...i only carry it when in huinting season really, and if im going somewhere special...

Who in their right mind would try to rob someone they KNOW is armed. There are alot easier targets out there.

I agree. Think about it this way. It's 2 A.M., I'm standing inside of a SHELL station waiting in line to get some chocolate milk and some cigarettes. I have a Glock 22 sitting in a nice black holster on my side.

A man goes to enter the SHELL with the intent to hold the place up.

Now, is this guy gonna come into a place where HE KNOWS a mofo is armed? Hells no, he'll proabbly go across the street to Chevron.

But seriously, it works both ways. I myself, carry concealed. I was disagreeing with the statement about criminals tagreting an armed person.
Concealment keeps me out of attention. The gun is there, I know it's there, and that's all I need.

On another note, how does the perp. know you are not a off duty cop, or plain cloths cop, or hell, some bad ass bounty hunter dying to pop a fool. He sees the gat. If I see someone with a gun on thier side, I think cop, instantly. Guns FTW! Concealed or not, still...FTW !!

Banks are _not_ federal buildings, aside from the World Bank which isn't even really a 'bank'.
Police stations are town/city/state property.

As for actual Federal buildings like say the Post Office it is against the law to bring on to federal property a firearm period. In parts or whole, loaded or emptied, concealed or open. A magazine aka "clip" is not a 'firearm' by Federal definition although ammunition is not allowed either. Exceptions include military bases where prior approval has been given by the base commander or some other person of powerful note.

Whay are they discussing this topic like it hasn't been disccussed in great detail before?

agreed -

i was too busy to dig up the old thread so it could be used instead

98% of the folks there are total retards - and threads like that brings the crazies out of the wood work

i feel bad for bobtorismo - he tried valiantly to use logic and stats to set the record straight

not to mention the one guy supposedly ccw's but feels that open carry is a better method!

Overnight via UPS/Fedex. Call them for packaging details.
Bingo.

IIRC UPS has a no firearms policy now for non commercial customers.
Fedex, DHL, Flying Tigers...those are the folks you use.

Try to ship a gun or ammunition by USPS and you might have a Postal Inspector knocking on your door with steel one size fit most bracelets for you to try on.
