i think the ruger is cooler then the sks. did you see Adlers post about the tournament built ruger? has a nice thumb hole stock and a satin finish on the metal.
I agree, the Saiga is a fun gun and a good choice for general plinking. However, if you want a rifle with excellent accuracy, a Saiga isn't it. I have one and it groups no better than an AK at 100 yards. An SKS will outshoot it. The Ruger should too. This isn't a slam on the Saiga by any means. Where else can you get a real Russki AK for under $300?
I've been really happy with the accuracy of my 2 SKS's. My first which was pretty worn shoots as good as the mirror bore of the second newer one. If all you want is something in this caliber to target shoot with, go find a shooter grade SKS and buy 1000 rounds. Can be had for less than $300.
Its all up to you really. Both work fine. For the moment the mini 30 is cheaper. The SKS is really a dumbed down and underpowered FN 49 and SVT40, while the mini is a powered down and loosened up version of the m14
ive had mini 14s and 30s and yes theyer not sniper rifles but they are accurate enough.not to mention rugged and reliable the only sks ive owned or wanted to own was a norinco para model with the ak mag well.
