That video just doesn't seem realistic to me. I would think that any normal, conscious human being would take a few steps back giving them that needed extra time.

well thats 12', not 21. but i would NEVER attempt a fully extended shooting position when some nut job it thrusting at me with a blade. it would be a hip shot, no hesitation. also, the complete lack of defense on the part of the officers is ludicrous.

Lets see what happens as 12' when the guy has his gun out and ready, and the guy with the knife is sheathed up.

if it were me i would have pistol whipped his ass about 7 times already at 6', not counting 12' run he'd make, he'd be full of lead

i might have runned at his ass if i saw the knife with my pistol out aimed and loaded

the point of the video is to show the time needed to identify the threat and then react. it is a fact that people take, on average, .5 - 1.5 seconds to react to a threat. the distance that an attacker can close in the time someone is identifying the threat, getting the brain to understand what is going on (reacting), drawing, and putting rounds down range is at a minimum 21 feet.

knives are one the most dangerous weapons out there. you can be slahed and stabbed multiple ways. the video isn't saying that you wouldn't get offline from your attacker or seek cover while drawing your weapon to put rounds down range, it's showing how much slower reaction is compared to action... and why you need all that space between you when someone has a knife.

i dont wear a holster,

i have it in my jacket pocket all the time, teh jacket has a thin sheet of metal in the arm and in front of the gun (left side *its kickass:)*) custom made

but yes reaction time is the key to everything when on the police force. :)

Video of an instance where a BG with a 10" knife owns three of five LEOs in Nicaragua.
Six shots were discharged before the BG went down.

Note: This is live video and there is blood shown.

Be sure to take note of the distances between the BG and the LEO as well as how quickly the BG was able to close distance and score a hit on the LEOs especially the first one to be stabbed who was unable to ceven get his weapon unholstered before being slashed.

Man, that video truely shows you to NEVER under estimate the lethality of a knife..
Yep.

Another lesson shown is that one should _never_ under estimate the enemy, and to not overestimate ones own ability even as you may have numbers.
The LEOs are fools for not having had weapons in hand at the ready be it a sidearm or shotgun/rifle.

Lucky for them that they lived to learn their lessons.
