hey folks, (noob question below...)

just picked up a RRA LAR-15 the other day, CAR A4 w/flat top...
the sights on it are a-ok for 50 yds, I can put up a mighty fine group with that..(well, i'm happy with it)

where I run out of vision is at the 100yd mark.
I'm not looking to zing out to 2-3-400 yds at this point with current setup, so I don't need the mega-buck scopes.

What I think that I want is something like a red-dot and have the option or ability to have a 2-4x magnifier on it.

does something like this come as one unit? or is this a 2 piece setup?

I've seen aimpoint and eotech setups on some sights...but didn't really figure out what setup i 'need'.

thoughts?

(and many thanks!)

First of all, whats the max you are looking to spend?

I myself like the Eotech with magnifier and flip mounts. Its wide open you can keep both eyes open and flip up the mag if you need it.

Again it all depends on what you are willing to spend.

If you want the best ACOG all the way its a one part unit but its going to set you back 7-800 bucks. (I think this goes into the Mega bucks scopes huh?)

And congratulations on your new rifle, you will enjoy it.

i've put maybe 300 rounds through it and love it.

but my group at 100 yds was ugly...managed to get all shots onto the paper and that was about it.

(biggest problem was that I just simply couldn't see the target...had 3 on one board and just aimed in what i figured was the middle....

and yes, at this point 800 bucks would be approaching the megabuck realm..

would i be making an ass out of myself if i asked if there was something close in the 400 range that'd make me happy as well?

i've got an old scope on my marlin that i might just pilfer from that rifle in the mean time to just see what the RRA is capable of...but that's an old scope...but has the right mag...1.75-5x (think it's actually a shotgun scope?)

thanks for the help.

ok, that first getup you posted ORCA is very sweet....

however that second one is probably something closer to what I'd feel comfy getting for now.

of course i'm sure that in a little time i'd kick myself for not just sucking it up and getting the better getup.

At some point I'd like to get a better barrel setup for the longer range shots as well...but that's more coin and a longer time away.

thanks

Yeah you may just want to get a 3x or 4x target scope first. Not as sexy as the Eotech/Magnifier setup, but more affordable and should do a good job.

You could also go with the Eotech first, then add the magnifyer later if needed. I just don't think an Eotech by itself will solve your 100yard problem.

I hate to mention aimpoint knock offs to, but I know there's other users here who have them and say they do the job.

Thanks again..

It's not like i'm blind...but just frustrating to have to spend 800 bucks to have a sexy set of optics just to hit a piece of paper at 100yds.

I'll give my other scope a try and then might look into something a bit sweeter...(also need to find out if i can put up a group with it too!)

From what I recall I was able to put up some nice groups with my 30-30 and the scope, so i should be in good shape.

oh sorry about that, didn't mean to make it sound negative...it's just that i really couldn't see the target.
(i do have some thick glasses, but still no dog yet !)

when not peeking through that tiny hole and then at the post...the little black circle on the target just plain vanished....and yes, i gotcha on the red-dot...some can be on the large side yes?

as soon as i looked above the site, no problem though...odd

so chances are good that I certainly do need something for 100yds..

and yes, plunked down a bit of coin on the rifle and i'm sensing that i'll continue to do so for some time.

i'll keep poking around on various sites...see what else i can find.
ideally i'll just have to hit up the local shop to see what the differences are and if one is better for me or the other...
chances are good i'll walk out with even more crap...ugh.

I use an EOTech for USPSA Rifle matches. locally we don't go more than 150yrd. The EOTech works great, fast acquisition at close range, with enough precision for the far stuff. I sight it in at 100yrds. use the bottom of the circle at point blank range, the whole circle at mid distance, the 1moa dit at 100yrds+,

you guys are determined to make me spend even more money aren't you?

(but it is starting to sound like the smart money is on the Eotech stuff)

i hit up the range today, i'm doing really well with the iron sights at 50yds, i don't bother with the 100 at this point...won't until i get something that helps.

thanks for the info...will keep you posted.

still no new optics for the RRA....but a new Cabelas opened up near here and i've got a bunch of gift cards...so i'll wait till after Santa shows up to see what else i've got...i'm thinking eotech is where it's at.

(at it looks pretty sweet too)
