so i want my first gun to be a .22 for two reasons really:
1. want to learn how to shoot properly (yes i understand this can be done with a larger caliber but i heard it was easier with smaller calibers)
2. cheaper ammo

My price range:
$250-$0

so i really got my eyes down to a couple of autoloaders in no particular order:
1. marlin model 60
2. ruger 10/22
3. mossberg 702
4. remington 597

so this is what i understand so far about these guns:

marlin model 60
PROS:
1. better ergonomics and accuracy than a stock 10/22
2. cheap, under $100 (right?)

CONS:
1. tube mag (heard both good and bad things about this but more bad than good)
2. can not be accessorized like the 10/22

ruger 10/22
PROS:
1. has A LOT of accessories for it to make it accurate and cooler
2. uses a regualar magazine unlike the marlin 60
3. seems to be extremely popular

CONS:
1. okay accuracy and ergomonics out of the box compared to the marlin model 60 (but can be fixed b/c of the near infinite amount of accessories for it)
2. $200+ (right?)

mossberg 702
PROS:
1. Under $200 around $150(right?)
2. ????

CONS:
1. ????

remington 597
PROS:
1. ????

CONS:
1. $200+
2. ????

so i really want to know:
1. is there anything else i need to know about these guns?
2. can you guys give me more info about the mossberg 702 and remington 597?
3. is there any other gun i should be looking at?
4. which gun is best for me?
5. i have visited and looked at some around me, but anyone know a good gun store around me?

sorry for the noobish questions

Thanks for all you help

Go 10/22. Nothing wrong with Marlins, but you can make the 10/2 into what you want.

My 22 plinkers are an old Marlin Glenfield 60, a Winchester bolt gun from the 50's, and a Remington 550.

Build a thick pellet trap you can, I used to when it was raining outside till I ran out of room.

I used 1/4 inch plate steel and some 1 1/2 inch weld runs around it for mine with 3 slants in the back to catch them and never had one bounce out.

The inside was /\ \/ /\ but with a path for the rounds and MUCH less of a slope.

Sorry I sold it..
