Hello all I am looking for a inexpensive scope for my rifle. I have a 7mm WSM and it has a decent kick. The scope I am looking at is a BSA 3-10x40 Panther. Before everyone starts in by telling me that I need to spend 300$ on a leupold scope....I don't need a 300$ scope. I have shot the gun maybe 50 times so far (with ammo being about 2$ per shot) and I don't see myself ever getting really heavy unless I start reloading or win the lottery. I just want a scope that won't go double has a decent eye pupil and relief and something that I can go plinking at 1-300yds without too much trouble. Once I can start getting MOA at 100-200 yds I will look at better scopes, until then I need to get good before the scope does. The gun is a Winchester 70 so I know it should be capable (at least more capable than me) of MOA at 1-200. Is the BSA going to get me where I want to be? I can't find hardly any scope reviews of anything under 200$.

a cheap scope will not hold zero and will not track accurately. It will make shooting alot more difficult you won't know if it is you or the rifle that is causing the problem. I have had decent luck with some cheap simmons and tasco scope on .308s I think they ran around $100. I now use a Super sniper 10x which I picked up used for $200 workd great, holds zero and passes the box test

Keep an eye out on gunbroker for an older Redfield scope. You may find one for a good price.
edit: this looks like mine http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=79236907

I have one on my Remington 742 .308 that's probably from the late '70s. It stays dead on, and in fact I haven't had to touch it in probably 10-15 years. I also always have people comment on how clear it is.
