I grab my rifle tonight so I can mess with the scope adjusters - since my internet went down and I got bored for 10 minutes - and as I open the bolt to check for a loaded weapon (I know its not loaded but I check everytime I pick it up) I notice the feed ramps have this orange splotchy color on them both.

WTH!? I clean and lube my rifle after everytime I shoot! Why would a new rifle have rust on the innards when its always oiled? (over oiled at that...) -- could that be why?

Is it possible that there was moisture anywhere? Oxidation needs H20 for...oxidation. Myabe there was some oil (body/skin) that was on the ramp that was there and caused the rusting. You might want to have it polished off and then get a gun cloth to wipe the metal with.
That's what I have and do.

I dont know where moisture would have come from - I keep the rifle in its case and in my closet. The A/C vent in the closet is closed and I leave the door open, plus the rifle has never been "dry" - its brand new and I always keep it oiled. UNLESS the place I got it from left it dry, but when I got it home from buying it, it was pretty oiled too.

Me saying I just noticed it really means nothing - it could have been like this when I got it for all I know.

hmm well I had a hard time getting some pics, but here is the "best one" lol... Its on both ramps, and I looked at the bolt too but there isnt any rust on it

some bore solvents can cause corrosion as well. But you said its new, and it may have just been on the gun and you didn't notice it until now. It will polish out in time by chambering enough rounds.

hmm... well I am going to stop using my current cleaners (still use the clp breakfree) - but I am assuming that what I was using was dripping off the swab and into the upper before I could get it into the barrel for cleaning. What can I use for the chrome lined barrel...rather what is recommended by you guys?

Before I was using this stuff from Outers - I should have gotten something more specific but seeing as how all I have nearby is walmart... bleh!.

Hoppes has never treated me badly.

Neither has that Remmy dry lube. That stuff is awesome.

I think Hoppe's powder solvent will be fine on it.

Woah, thats strange on a new rifle..

I have never had any trouble with mine doing such and I dont treat mine very well at all. Even after doing my sand and river dunk it was not cleaned till about 2am that night and no trouble.

Just try scrubing it with some oil and a Q-tip and let us know what happens.

Arg, you got me checking all my feed ramps for rust now..

I used to use Ballistol as my oil but now I use this new stuff called "Weapon Sheld", seems to stick to the metal very well.

Last night I put a drop of oil on each ramp, and wiped it off, but I think its from using the solvent I use in the barrel....I just hope the barrel isnt rusted out :(.

Where can I find Weapon Shield at? I am going to try to go to this range in Macon tomorrow, IF they let me shoot w/ my spot 3, and ill see what they carry.

cool, yeah i was gonna run to the range up in macon tomorrow but I now know WHY they wont let you shoot unless you have a hunting scope. They only do rifle sight ins.... so why they advertise they have a range, I dont know. Its only for handguns really.

I think there is an outdoor range in another town nearby (outdoor) so I gotta get some stuff tomorrow + some ammo and ill check it out. Ill hopefully get to dump some ammo through my rifle...this is addicting :D

You should'nt leave a gun in a case no matter what. They attract moisture. Keep them in a cabinet or safe. Silica packets will help prevent that if you have no other way to store it, but they wear out fast.

Well you can get a cheap gun cabinet with a lock at Wal Mart usually.
