Got my M&P 9mm Full-size out to the range yesterday and was pleased, with reservations. It shot quite well out of the box; I put 150 rounds through it with two failures to feed and one failure of the slide to lock back on an empty magazine. I would not be willing to rule out operator error in either case.
I rented an M&P in .40, and it shot beautifully. I got similar results with the 9mm out of the box. Once I was able to force the frame tool loose (using one of the magazines as a lever) and and switch over to the small backstrap, I did some of the best shooting of my life. At nine meters, I made a nine round ragged hole in the 10 ring, with one round 2mm above said ragged hole just BARELY in the 9 ring.
I have two complaints: First, I believed the weapon to have an integral key lock. I pointed to the location on the frame where the key lock should be and asked the dealer, "This is where the key lock is, right?" and he answered in the affirmative. Not so much; I ended up with a lockless model.
The second complaint is the magazines. I'm stuck with the CA 10-round magazines. As you can see from the following picture, the body tube is metal, with a plastic extention so the magazine will protrude from the grip as it's supposed to. This plastic doohicky doesn't seem terribly well attached to the body tube - I'm curious to see how well they hold up. I'd've prefered an all-metal single-stack mag if they MUST limit my capacity.
