So I finally got my sorry ass around to buying one, and HOLY c4rp! What a difference.

About 4x brighter than standard and uses much less battery power. Pure white light and it is focusable like the regular maglites!

It's the maglite brand LED replacment... Got it at wallyworld for $18.

if they had them for 5 cell I would get two, you would think with 5 D's it would last alot longer, Nope..

Its expensive to replace 5 D's every few hours.

Ive noticed quite a few of the maglites at walmart advertise that they already have a 3 watt LED. Are they all the same brightness even though they come in many different sizes and with different sizes of batteries? Or does the number of cells or the size of the cells (C vs D) make a difference in the brightness?

The maglite conversion led bulbs work well! I replaced all my maglite 3 D cell lights with them and they really make the mini-maglites alot brighter! Got them at Wal-Mart.

f all that nonsense - get the TLE-300:

500-600 Lumen from 3 3 watt K2 Luxeon "Flip Chip" LEDs. Brightest Drop-In LED up- grade for 4, 5 and 6 "D" cell Maglites® only.

TLE-300 The TLE-300 upgrade fits into and converts a Maglite® flashlight with 4, 5 or 6 D cell batteries into the brightest LED flashlight available, setting a new performance milestone in flashlight brightness. TerraLUX uses three of the latest Luxeon® K2 “flip chip” high powered super bright LEDs to make this performance possible. The light output of the TLE-300 is greater than a conventional 50 Watt MR-16 halogen light bulb.
