So mulling over the lates CDNN catalog. I came across this curiosity...

The Remington 7615P. A friggin Remington 870 that shoots .223!!!

http://www.remingtonle.com/rifles/7615.htm

Appearently the Remintgton 7600 is a .308 veraiant.

I'm a HUGE fan of the 870 shotguns, but not sure why Remington went this route otehr then ease of training for current 870 police.

The 7615 seems dumb to me. It is based on an action that has never had good reliability or accuracy. Neither of which are good things for an LE weapon.

It's not really a bad concept. This combination, of 870 muscle memory with a good centerfire slide action that uses AR mags and costs half the price of an AR. With the variety of options: sights, stocks it can be configured to handle almost any situation that an 870 or AR could and it give LEO a cheaper alternative.

Now the Rem pump action isn't as accurate as a bolt but it's still pretty damn accurate and of no disadvantge at ranges under 300yds. Which is farther than most LEO's I know can hit anything consistantly anyhow.

Remington has only enjoyed great success and reputation in their shotguns and bolt action rifles.

The pump rifles and even the semi autos have always been really picky and not worth it IMHO. My dad had a Rem pump 30-06 for ONE hunting trip and then traded it in on a Browning BAR if that tells you anything.

This rife was in one of those "LEO" gun mags not too long ago, the benefits of this system (according to them) are that, A- similar controls to the shotty, not working against muscle memory, and B- Doesn't have that "evil" M16 look that would alarm unsympathetic politicos...different means to the same end i guess

They're very popular here in the east, Remy actually started refering to the click clack of the slide as the PA 2 step. I know many ppl who shot the 7600 and own a few myself and have never had a problem with them in any way.

they have always been really picky about cleanliness. And compared to a BAR, man the Remington just doesnt hold up.

I think its a great idea for police, you can have high cap mags filled with good armor penatrateing ammo and its not "Scary" looking for the people that piss them self if they see an "Assault rifle" even in the hands of a police.
