Reign of terror

By SUSAN YOUNGER
staff reporter

Men posing as FBI agents bound and gagged residents at a Hunter's Creek Road home, shot their dogs, and tortured and robbed them early morning Monday.

Authorities believe the incident began about 1:30 a.m. when one male, 25, happened to let two of his three pet pit bull dogs outside of the rented home in Lapeer Township.

"They heard a commotion, then they heard shots outside," said Lapeer County Sheriff's Lt. Gary Parks. "Mea, one dog, was shot and she went to the back porch. The second dog, Homeboy, escaped and wasn't injured."

The male who let the dogs out opened the door and saw a man with wearing a hat and shirt that had 'FBI' printed on it. A second man wore a T-shirt that said 'Police.'

"The man with the FBI hat said, 'This is a raid,"' said Parks. "The man, still thinking he was from the FBI, picked up his third dog, Choka, and asked him not to shoot her. He thought they might mistake her for an attack dog."

But while the homeowner held his pet, one of the intruders shot Choka in the neck. The man and his wife, 19, who was six months pregnant, and two other residents, both 17, still believed the two to be law enforcement agents until the robbery and torture began.

The men ordered the males in the group to the ground and bound their hands and feet and covered their eyes with duct tape. They used a Taser gun to repeatedly stun the homeowner and one male teen. The pregnant woman and a boy, 2, were ordered into another room and forcibly asked "where the money was."

While the woman and boy were away from the group, the other intruder told her husband he'd Taser his pregnant wife and child unless they gave him money.

The intruders put the woman and boy in a room, took an undisclosed amount of money from the safe along with jewelry, clothing, a home entertainment center, home theater, VCRs, and cell phones.

They ransacked the house before bolting. The female waited for about 10 minutes after they'd gone and phoned 911.

One of the dogs did not make it while the other was set to be operated on today. The victims were shaken up but otherwise sustained no serious injuries.

"Mea had to be destroyed," said Parks. "She was shot on site by animal control. "Choka is being operated on (Tuesday.) Homeboy returned and was not hurt."

The home invasion and armed robbery is under investigation.

Fake cop suspects busted

By SUSAN YOUNGER
staff reporter

Lapeer County Sheriff's deputies tracked down and arrested two men suspected of torturing and robbing Hunters Creek Road residents, shooting two of their pet dogs in the process early morning Monday.

Evidence developed by Lapeer County Sheriff's investigators tied David Taylor, 34, of Cass City and Dwayne Rocca, 38, of Fairgrove to the incident.

Taylor was arrested Wednesday afternoon at a Lapeer County residence while Rocca was apprehended Wednesday evening at his Tuscola County residence by deputies from Lapeer and Tuscola counties along with Fairgrove Police Department officers.

Authorities believe the incident began about 1:30 a.m. when one male resident, 25, happened to let two of his three pet pit bull dogs outside of the rented home in Lapeer Township. Residents of the home include the male, his wife, 19, and their son, 2. The couple's two male friends, both 17, also live at the home.

The man heard shots outside and Mea, one dog, was shot. She was later found lying in a pool of blood on the back porch. The second dog, Homeboy, escaped and wasn't injured.

The male who let the dogs out opened the door and saw a man with wearing a hat and shirt that had 'FBI' printed on it. A second man wore a T-shirt that said 'Police.'

The man wearing the FBI hat told the resident, "This is a raid." The homeowner picked up his third dog Choka, and asked the intruder, who he thought was from the FBI, not to shoot.

The victim thought the owner might mistake her for an attack dog, said Lapeer County Sheriff's Lt. Gary Parks.

While the male held his pet, one of the intruders shot Choka in the neck.

The man bound the males in the group with duct tape and covered their eyes. The intruders used a Taser gun and repeatedly stunned two of the males to obtain information about where money was located. The female, who is six months pregnant, was placed in another room with the boy, 2. While they were away from the group, the intruder told the husband he'd stun his pregnant wife and child unless he complied.

The suspects ransacked the home and took stereo equipment, a game system, clothing, and an undisclosed amount of cash. After they left, the woman freed the males from the duct tape and called 911.

The two males suffered numerous Taser burns on their bodies, but sustained no serious injuries. Mea is dead, but Choka may recover.

Taylor and Rocca were lodged in the Lapeer County Jail, and expected to be arraigned on charges soon. Rocca is currently hospitalized as a result of injuries he sustained.

Woah... right when he shot at the first dog is when I would have got rifle and opened fire on them..

4 things you mess with and die... Family, my guns, friends and my dogs....

I had read something about another thing like this, with crooks poseing as cops, always ask to see badges and if it looks strange... LIKE FBI WORKING WITH POLICE! like this story said, take cover and stand your ground.

Me to... That why I would not become a cop, because I know myself, I would end up going after those pricks that get away with it.
Hey, they get away with it on Law and Order sometimes!
