I've noticed that my Kimber is showing some pretty significant wear on the matte black surfaces mostly from holstering and unholstering in a Blackhawk Serpa holter. I planned on having the gun refinished anyway to something that doesn't feel quite as "rough" as the finish that the gun has out of the box. So I've been thinking about having it refinished with the Eclipse finish done in the Kim-Pro coating. Anyone have any feelings on that finish one way or the other? The other option is to have the pistol refinished in the Wilson Combat Armor-Tuff? Is one better than the other from experience?

Just about any finish other than hard chroming is going to wear when using a kydex holster and doing a lot of holster work. I would leave the gun as is... it gives it character.

I must say I do agree with the character part, I guess I'll just have to resort back to the Wilson Combat suede lined holster. I am going to have to work on the 'character' thing though, I'm one of those crazy people that likes to keep everything as aesthetically preserved as possible...especially on a pistol that I paid a little better than $1,000.00 for. But on the flip side. I can keep the finish a little better now that I have the XD I've been using for carry the last month or so.

If you want a pretty gun.... then don't shot it. My custom gun has all the blue worn off where it rides on the holster and where my trigger finger touches the slide. I have had the gun for 8 month. it gets used alot. Re-blueing it would be a waste of money. Take pride in a worn looking gun, it means it is getting used

Other than ceramic coatings I have not seen anything come close to holding up like hard chroming.

If I recall correctly, Bruce Willis refers to the guns as "Glock sevens" I know there is no "seven" but I thought he was just saying "seven" as short for "seventeen". And the fact that they dont show up on metal detectors was just thrown out there for script reasons. I dont remember hearing anything about ceramic. I may be wrong on this I will go try to find a link.

I guess I was wrong here is a quote:
"That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me! You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. It doesn't show up on your airport X-ray machines, and it costs more than you make here in a month!"
