A friend of mine wants an XD 45 real bad. I told him I prefer a DA/SA decocking action better than the glock type of striker fired mechanism. So I suggested the Taurus 24/7 even though I have never fired either of these guns. Does anybody have any strong opinions for or against either of these guns? Reliability is number one concern and he wants it in a high capacity 45. Are they going for the same price?

Before the XD won it, the Taurus 24/7 was the NRA handgun of the year. They are totally reliable and a really nice gun. Just make sure its the 24/7 pro since the old school 24/7 was a DAO mechanism.

Taurus has been a great manufacturer since about 94 when they upped their quality significantly.

Another suggestion is to look around for a S&W 99 in 45acp. They were only made in a small number but are better than both the 24/7 and XD since you can adjust the grip.

For reliability you can't go wrong with the XD. They're built like a tank.

I considered teh Taurus, but something about the grip turned me off.
