OK now, I tend to prefer Surefire.

What does everyone like? I'm thinking of waiting for the X200L when it comes out or there's always the Military Tac Light or the Nitrolon series.

Or another brand altogether.

What should I get?

Keep in mind, the XD is going to mostly be used for target shooting, hunting backup and hiking protection (bears, cats, etc.). I'd like a laser but don't want to rely on it.

I have the Streamlight TRL-2, High output LED + Laser and the ITI M6, Xenon + Laser. The TRL 2 has an all aluminum body, brighter then Xenon bulb, decent battery life and a nice rail mounting screw. I've had the M6 for about 3 years now, no probs except how it eats batteries.

I've actually seen the XD weapon light and it looks odd mounted on the 5" XD. Just seems a bit short and the body is all polymer.

But double check at your gun store if the TRL or M series will mount correctly on your XD bfore you dump $200-$300.

I've used an M3 with good results. The new aluminum TRL's seem really nice, and at the same or lower price.

The X200 is nice, but something didn't sit quite right when I tried in in a gunshop. Dunno. I'm sure it's a good piece. It's also "Surefire 'Spensive," but you're aware of that I'm sure. :D

One thing to keep in mind with the TLR is that it doesn't just snap on and off like the M3/6 or the Surefire. It's a lateral tip-on mount that is then cam-locked down by hand or with a coin, I think 1/4 turn. It's supposedly a more secure mount, but if you'll be in situations where you need to rapidly mount and dismount the light (like some cops who don't have - but should have - tac light holsters  ), you may want to pass.

streamlight's are very good to, I tend to like the surefire LED one a tad more to, seems like a tad more light and will last longer.

The diff with the M6 and the LED version is that the LED version's laser is only water resistant (the light is water proof), whereas the M6 is fully submergable.

na, we have one for sale where I work and it feels like I could break it with my hands... and it looks awfull.
Oh, and yeah. It's TINY and flimsy. It's only good for fitting on the compact XD's giving them one option to tout over the baby Glocks, which have no rail.

The subcompact XD pistols will NOT accept a normal "tac" light.

You can see from this photo that the only light that will fit on the XD Subompact is the Springfield mini light:

...due to the short frame/rail:

Funny - this photo in Shooting Times gets that fact wrong:

Look at the distance ^^^ between the trigger guard and the rail notch. Now look at the distance between the switch face and the notch clip on the M3 light. No can do.

One thing to note between the M6 and the TRL is that the M6 is waterproof (from what I've read), and on the TRL only the flashlight is waterproof whereas the laser is only water resistant. Not a big deal, but if you're in the coast guard or something it could be.

I was at Sportsman's Warehouse this weekend picking up my Remington M700 for my AICS project and I picked up an X200A. They also had the Streamlight TLR-1 but I decided to go with the Surefire since I know them and trust them. The A is a little directional but I like it. Fits PERFECT on the XD. I'll have to get some picts of my new arsenal.
