As featured yesterday in the San Farncico Chronicle:

SAN FRANCISCO
3 suspects shot in robbery attempt

Jaxon Van Derbeken

Wednesday, June 28, 2006

Police are looking for a man who turned the tables on three would-be robbers and shot them early Tuesday in the Tenderloin.

Police say the three first tried to rob a man at 3:30 a.m. at Turk and Leavenworth streets, but he was able to escape. The man then watched as the suspects confronted a couple and tried to grab a backpack from them, police said.

The man with the backpack pulled a gun and shot the three, police said. One man was wounded in the leg and was quickly arrested, and a second man wounded in the arm and buttocks was found around the corner.

The third man, wounded in the buttocks and groin, went to the Tenderloin Task Force police station for help.

"You've got to go somewhere," Inspector John Peterson said. "Where he was shot, he needed the help.''

The three men each were charged with two counts of attempted robbery. Their names were not immediately released.

"It's rare to have a victim be armed and use the weapon successfully on all three perpetrators,'' Peterson said. "We would like to talk to that victim to hear the rest of the story.''

Yep, and all the while doing this protecting his female companon whilst out numbered 3:1 and no doubt in fear of his life.
The most ironical of ironies is that this occurred in San FRancisco which just weeks ago ahd it's gun ban overturned as unconstitutuional (CA state).
Moreover the odds of getting a license to carry in SF are damn near zero so the citizen who defended himself and his associate is now himself a criminal no different than those he capped, even as he was othrwise doing what is lawful as per rarely allowed but in place state law.
Further for the police to request that the shooter come forward so as to square the stroy of the admitted criminals is even that much more hilarious.

This whole story is rife with nothign but ironies funny and at the expense of the citizenship city and state wide.
It's a damn shame it's come to this but honestly, had that guy been me I too would choose to walk off into the dark content to be an alive criminal than a legally dead dad leaving behind a raped wife.

You can count on the SF law types to call the victim a possible murderer too. My only thought is that he seemed to be aiming a bit low.

Good on him for following the three rules of defending self and loved ones in areas in which self defense is frowned upon..

1. Shoot
2. Shovel
3. Shut Up

Agreed Jamz.
Collect brass if opportunity allows then get to steppin' and never speak of the incident again, never ever.

Forget the brass. George The Fierce out of Dodge and melt down the gun. This is a no win in San Fran.

Aside: I was watching a show about the Nightstalker, Richard Ramirez (horrifically brutal serial rapist and murderer). I was unaware that at the time, then-mayor of San Francisco Dianne Feinstein released sensitive information that was supposed to be for the SFPD's internal use in comparing links to murders in San Francisco. She put it all out at a news conference and blew a ton of eyes-only evidence.

WAPCE. :D
