As reported today by The New York Daily News:

L.I. bizman shot
Fights for life after attack outside house

BY LISA MUÑOZ and LEO STANDORA
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

A Long Island businessman was fighting for his life last night after a gunman shot him in the face outside his Roslyn Heights home in what may have been a bungled robbery, police said.
Doctors at North Shore University Hospital said Jack Singh, 52, was in critical condition.

The single bullet fired by his attacker hit him near the nose, passed through his head and lodged in the back of his neck, they said.

Police said Singh; his wife, Sherry, and his daughters, Anyssia, 10, and Angelina, 10 months, were in their home on Powerhouse Road about 8:45 p.m. on Monday, when Anyssia told her dad, "I think I heard something in the garage."

Singh went out with a cup of tea in his hand and ran into a man with a gun standing between two cars outside the garage adjoining the house, cops said.

The assailant, described as in his mid-20s to 30s and in dark clothing, dropped Singh with one shot, then pointed the gun at Singh's wife, who was close behind him.

But he fled without shooting again when the wife began screaming for help.

Residents of the close-knit, upscale neighborhood wondered whether the shooting had something to do with Singh's furniture delivery business or was a thwarted home invasion.

Although the case looks like one of nearly four dozen home invasions in Nassau and Suffolk in the last couple of years cops said they have no solid motive yet.

Family friend Bert Taveras described Singh as "a hard worker and a real family man."

"What happened to him has just devastated this community," Taveras added. "We're just hoping if anyone saw anything they say something to the police."

He said Singh's wife was "very distraught right now, but she wants people to pray for her husband.

"That's what he needs now."

Progressive, indeed...

Wow, did he get that anti-criminal strategy from the British or something?

Glad my state is a "Red" state [and no, I don't mean red with blood...] where you can legally arm yourself with a touch more than some tepid Earl Grey.

Wow, come to think of it, what if he had the time to launch that deadly tea at the perp? I wonder how long it will be until teas, coffees, latte, and chai are regulated by the Powers that Be in New York as being too dangerous for possession/consumption by anyone other than police, military, and Schmuck Schumer's henchmen...

Filthy Rich

Damn, Janq, not much sleep lately? ;)

I'd grab the steel, and a light, invistigate away, and tall the fuzzez if it looks like a hamburglar. If he comes inside well then all bets are off.

Ditto Jamz.

In fact atleast once per month either I, Mrs. Janq or the dog are alerted to some strange out of place noise/presence. So far all but one have been false alarms such as wind, construction debris blown over/rolling on the ground, skunk and wild cats poking around in the garbage left out for collection, those damn squirrels (!), or the barn door left unlocked and blown ajar.
Only once was it a human and that was a college student who I assume was out for a middle of the night booty call and for some crazy reason mistook my house for a neighbors down the street even as our homes are totally different looking and my house number is prominently and obviously displayed.
Always though I tool up my my cellphone, a .45 and a spare mag, a illuminator of some sort and tennis shoes in the event I need to run.
Even with all the exterior lights & lamps we have going there are still dark and blind spots to be mindful of not to mention the woods surrounding us on three sides which I also will patrol via moonlight alone so as to not wake or alarm the neighbors, and avoid having my face be posted all over the local news.

I feel bad for this guy, but in a way he kind of owned himself. :(
If someone tells you a strange noise is going on in the garage which most often is attached and thus within ones own home, then take that crap seriously. Obviously Mr. Singh did not take it or the safety of his family serious at all. Going out to investigate a strange noise with nothing but a cup of tea. Geebus. At the very least call 911 and lock the house up as well as the garage door.
Worst to go investigate and have ones wife directly behind them is just not smart. Singh to be alive and his wife is too as the bad guy could easily have decided to shoot her or worst assault her and the children too. Then what. :(

P.S. - I was up at 5AM trying to calm & quiet a screaming baby while trying not to wake the neighbors. :\

I always grab the steel and light I prefer a shotty, like janq usually it's just wind or animals such as the damn bear that started hanging around, we've reached an agreement so he can live for the time being.

My FFl on the other hand lol I few years ago he heard noises in the night, it was some1 trying to steal his boat and break into his store. They already hand the boat trailer hooked to their truck. My good friend freddy investigated the noises with AK in hand. The guys jumped in the truck an took off freddy decided it was his boat and he could shoot it if he wanted so he put 2 mags into the back of the truck and boat.. His wife had already calld the police, they arrived took the info and looked around. Then they saw the pile of spent casings on the ground and ask about then. Freddys answer, it's my damn boat it I can't use it they can't either so I shot the fucker. It was a save direction to shoot so the police didn't say anything about it and left. They cam back less than an hour later with the holey boat and trailer. Several of the rounds, FMJ, penetrated the gas tank and rear axel of the truck and they fond it about 5 miles away along back road abandond with the boat still attached.

I wouldn't suggest this approach to everyone lol but living in BFE in a gun friendly certainly does make more options available.
