I'm pretty sure you're looking for an SKS rifle, I think those are still CA legal.
Or, a KelTec SU16 is pretty cool also, and won't break the bank at $400 or so. I'm assuming you wouldn't want a bolt gun if you are going for the AW look.
I was gonna say a CETME, but I think those are illegal out there.
