I saw another thread about mini-14s but I didnt wanna grap in his thread considering he wasnt refering to this paticular model.

Ive been seriously been thinking about picking one of these up:
http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=5808&return=Y[/URL]

the guys at my local range/store say it is far and beyond what mini's in the past shot like. And from reading reviews on guns and ammo and other sites it seems that this is true.

Ive fallen in love with the look and feel with this model. It felt so nice snuggled next to my shoulder. I plan to use it for a general plinker/paper killer. I just wanted to see what you guys thought about the model in general.

I was quoted a price of $813.00, with an msrp of $999.00. Im wondering if I can find it cheaper at a show or maybe is should see if i can talk them down.

thanks for any advice

That sure is a cool rifle and im sure its tons better than a reg model. But for that much money (or just a little more) I could get a DPMS LR308.

while i can appreciate that there are better rifles than this, it comes down to a question of cost for myself. I want something that will be cheap to shoot and 800$ for the rifle itself is already pushing my budget.

I gotta slow it down a little bit, after purchasing my moss 500 and XD In the past year I hardly have any cash for my other money sucking hobbies.

btw this will be my first rifle. I was gonna start with an sks but its been hard for me to find a nice one.
The would be a great starter gun, If it anything like a normal mini-14 you will be happy.

Have you looked at the Kel-tecs? SU rifles? They are in the $400 price range I think.

Altima,

Have you heard of or given any thought toward the offerings from Beretta...

Beretta 'Cx4 Storm'

Beretta 'Rx4 Storm'

http://www.berettausa.com/product/spotlight/spotlight_rifle_rx4.cfm

Or the new Remington LEO/Military pump-action patrol rifle...

Or as mentioned prior multiple choices from KelTec in the 'SU-16' line or simply a basic RRA AR which does not have to be high speed or low drag looking to be accurate and effective.

Janq,

That Beretta CX4 is a decent idea in theory, but it's just a pistol with long barrel and stock. There are pistols you can adapt to work like the Storm (by adding a stock and longer barrel). I dunno, just don't really like it. (Don't know much about the rifle caliber version to say anything)

That Remington pump action rifle just makes me laugh. Remington needs to stick to shotguns.
As well rifles are nothing but accurized shotguns and shotguns are just long barreled pistols developed over time. :p

Folks like the Cx4 and report it's a fine weapon while the molded in pistol grip allows Beretta to work around laws that restricted as much and it also made for a handy point of entry toward loading. It is a carbine.
I'm familiar with the pistol to carbine conversions including one I was looking at last year developed toward 1911 and Glock frames.

The Remington pump I personally wouldn't be interested in but it has it's place and I figured dude might find it interesting as well as affordable.

The remington Pump rifle was built for one reason...cops can't shoot :)
you need to keep it simple, teach them one manual of arms. That way they are not in a shoot out trying to pump their AR
I have researched KelTec's based on peoples reviews here(have been lurking for over a year). They are quite nice but I feel it would be great for me to own later on, almost like a supliment to my growning collection.

Im not to keen on shooting a pistol round from a carbine, something just strikes me as odd about it. Ive held one at my local range and it didnt quite "fit" me all that well.

I will do some research on the Beretta 'Rx4 Storm' though....

I guess im just stuck on this mini. with the claimed improved accuarcy and already proven reliability im 95% sold.
Remember, with the Mini, the reliability issues come from feeding (aka: magazine).
