As reported yesterday by the Daily Hampshire Gazette:

Man accused of faking status as U.S. Marshal
By JAMES LOWE Staff Writer

[ Originally published on: Wednesday, January 03, 2007 ]

BELCHERTOWN - The law caught up Tuesday with a man who allegedly impersonated a U.S. Marshal and flashed a gun at a local restaurant last October.

Richard Fafard, 47, of Palmer, pleaded innocent in Eastern Hampshire District Court to charges of impersonating a police officer, defrauding a restaurant and assault with a dangerous weapon (handgun). His case was continued to Feb. 1.

According to a police report placed in the court file, Fafard walked into McCarthy's Pub on Oct. 27 and claimed to be a federal marshal after quickly showing not a badge but his driver's license to owner Janice McCarthy.

Fafard told McCarthy that he had eaten some bad food there and gotten sick the previous night. He demanded his money back.

McCarthy told police she was nervous and initially believed his claims. She showed him some receipts from the previous night's sales and then asked for his license and wrote his name down.

Meanwhile, Fafard started to light a cigarette.

A patron at the bar told him it was illegal to smoke in restaurants in Massachusetts.

Fafard replied, "I know, I am a federal marshal." He then pulled his jacket aside and displayed a gun holstered at his shoulder.

"That's right," he said, "it's a Glock."

McCarthy then gave Fafard $25, and he left. Witnesses watched him climb into a blue convertible and wrote down his license plate number.

Police traced the plate back to Fafard, who lives at 1588 North Main St. in Palmer. He was subsequently summoned to court.

One more drop in the anti-gun bucket of MA.
Yep. :(

I have another one to post that occurred last week but forgot to post it here.
I'll look it up and post it in a sec.

People really need to stop acting like dumbasses.

Doesn't it make you feel so helpless when hearing about these things? I mean what are we supposed to do about people like that? How are we gonna change anyone else's minds? By being good CCW'ers, theoretically no one should know we are even doing a good job. Grrr.

I would love to see some statistics about gun crimes committed by CCW versus non-CCW. I wouldn't think responsible gun owners have committed more than 5% of all gun crimes. I guess some would argue that eliminating all legally owned guns would decrease crime by 5%. It's futile.

Yes DJ....it makes me so mad, and is the reason I posted this item.

Honestly and it's off topic but this is to me exact same and I get the same feelings as when in OT I see threads about Black people with folks saying we don't value education, life, and just sit around smoking crap, making fatherless babies, and acting like idiots while awaiting welfare checks.
Plainly this is not true on the majority yet folks don't know about all the very many normal regular law abifding acting right people who are largely invisible and unaccounted for because they aren't out making noises acting like fools.

Other peoples crap ass actions reflect not only on them but all of us who happen to be amongst a group.
We represent each other and for us all.
As such folks need to recognize!

The news story from a week or two ago that I mentioend earlier I now can't find via their site search.
It was of some idiot in IIRC Hadley (or maybe it was Northampton..but it was very local) who got drunk then decided to argue with his wife and laid hands to her. After that he then goes and gets a pistol and points it at her threatening to kill her and himself. She leaves and goes for help to a neighbor who then calls 911. They arrive to find he's got his gun safe open with four or five firearms openly accessible with ammo too all unsecured (a very big no-no in MA!). He had a MA License to Carry (the sub type was unspecified).

:shakeshead:

My wife and I both read this and I was stunned at how eggregious the incident was.
Items like these make the gun adverse even more so and do not help us at all in our efforts to regain muchless exercise our collective rights. :(

Last year in the 'Why Carry A Concealed Weapon' thread at OT I had posted the stats toward as much upon someone anti stating that CCW'rs are nothing more than time bombs ready to go off at the first incident of a stolen parking space, highway road rage battle, and are little morethan Doc Holliday wannabe types spoiling for a fight.
A common misconception and assumption.

I'll try to find that post for you tonight and cross link it here in a subsequent post.
The FBI and individual states have been trackign this and the numbers of CCW nationwide are IIRC ~3% of the population and of that they commit less than 1/10% of all crimes as convictions go. Notably the state of texas has a complete detail of this record in specific to CCW.
The info is out there though it did take me some effort to locate.

when does shit like this start to sound like a good idea i wonder?
Back when I was selling Subarus, I had a guy come in for a test drive, wearing a bunch of hunting clothes. He said he was from Connecticut (we were in VT). He told me he was a cop of some kind and flashed a Browning Hi Power in a shoulder holster.

This was all legal in VT, since we have almost no gun laws. But the guy was a complete tool, looked JUST like Rod Farva, and was just a lot stroke anyway (i.e. was never a buyer).
