So I might be able to purchase a mossberg 500 for a steal. Only problem, the barrel is sawn off too short. Guy that did it measured it wrong, and the barrel is 17 1/4 inches instead of the legal 18. What kind of trouble could I get in with this thing?

10 years in jail and I think a fine of up to $10,000. Buy the shotgun take the barrel off and toss it in a lake or river, then go buy a new barrel.

Get a used barrel on Ebay. Only option to make yours legal would be to permanently attack an extended choke tube on it to make it 18in by welding it on. Not really worth teh 130 pluis for getting tubes installed.

I bought a new Mossberg barrel once on Gunbroker for 65 bucks.

yeah i agree i used to have a shorter barrel (15in) my friend is a cop and said i should get it replaced, ebay had 1 left 4 $32

yeh, id say get a cheap used barrel or just buy an 18.5 incher from mossberg (theyre less than $100) and take your old barrel and hammer it flat...

Thats the stupidest gun law i think ive heard in a while its no more dangerous than a regular shotgun sure its more easily concealed geez do they have monkey's with typewriters writing these laws.
