Anyone own one?

I've been sort of itching for a 1911, although I'm not much of a 1911 guy, I think the hi capacity Ten II is a nice pistol for me.

I'm always worried about reliability when straying away from Glock-land.

Anyone shoot one, own one, or have any experience with it?

Not the ten II but I have a custom II. It is a very well behaved weapon. I have a G22 Glock and a Walther P99 both in .40 and the Kimber is very pleasant to shoot by comparison. The only issue I really have is the base of the dovetail safety. it seems to stick out a tiny bit and made and obvious point of argument with my palm.

Hey brucelee,

If it’s the model you are buying is the old one with the External Extractor (EE), depicted in the picture you posted, you should reconsider. I’m not saying that you will automatically receive a lemon. There are many satisfied owners out there that have an external extractor on their Kimber. Their guns run flawlessly. But there were also a few too many complaints with the external extractor slide design for my liking. You can find a ton of those complaints at www.1911formu.com. In that forum Kimber has the most complaints of the big three (Springfield, Colt and Kimber). Most of it was related to this issue. Kimber went through 4 iterations with their EE and in the end retreated back to the internal extractor (IE). All but two of their current model are now IE.

Now you see it.

Now you don’t.

I’m not trying to bash them. I’ve shot a few different models of their guns and they make one fine shooting firearm. The first one I ever shot made me want one as soon as the first round went off. It was an older Custom II with an IE. The trigger was so sweet. It belongs to a friend’s dad. If he ever wants to get rid of it, he has a buyer waiting. What he has is one fine example of what Kimber is capable of. I’ve seen many examples if their guns run fine. But I’ve also had others FTF/FTE in my hands and seen many others FTF/FTE first hand (all EE). If I were going to buy one, which I will eventually, I would insist that it be an IE model. There are still many Kimber out there that floating around that are “New, old stock” that have the EE. If you buy one, you know what to look for. If you order one, be specific about what you want.

yes i agree about reliability, not only for range shooting but for self defense.
