So at work some guy came in with a beautifull stainless Kimber compact with pitting and rust spots on the slide and bad on the barrel! I almost cryed.. lol

We cant figure out how to remove it without messing up the finish anyone have any ideas?

How could someone let a pistol that costs 850 bucks get screwed up like that..

I have read a few times that Kimbers rust but why is this?! its hard as hell to rust stainless steel.

I scoped the barrel, it looks ok on the inside. its just the slide and outside of the barrel and everyone there is kinda scared of messing up the finish on the outside.

The pits in the slides outside are kinda deep but soaking it in a parts washer (After taking off night sights) helped a good bit but still bad stains.

Kimber wont do much most likely since it was obviously kept in a bad enviornment and the pitting is a cosmetic issue not a functioning issue. Alot of people dont know that stainless can rust and when it does, it tends to pit worse than plain carbon steel. The best thing for this guy to do is have the gun gun koted or duracoated. Every other finish out there wil show the pits, but I have had good luck using hi temp epoxy as a filler for the pits in the past on a Remington 870.

About the only way to make sure any gun will not rust is to have it double hard chromed or coated in one of the thermo set or polymer coatings.

All my stainless guns have wax or silicone on the metal to keep it from pitting.
