heh.. says the killer used a "police style AR-15". What an EVIL gun!!!!

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/10/08/wisconsin.shooting/index.html

CRANDON, Wisconsin (CNN) -- An off-duty sheriff's deputy used a police-style AR-15 rifle to kill six people at an early morning party in a small Wisconsin town, officials said Monday.

Twenty-year-old sheriff's deputy Tyler Peterson went to an apartment where a group of high school students and recent graduates were watching movies and eating pizza early Sunday, authorities said at a Monday news conference.

Peterson got in an argument with someone, got a rifle from his truck, forced his way back into the apartment and fired about 30 rounds at about 2:45 a.m. (3:45 a.m. ET). Six people were killed; one person survived and is hospitalized, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said.

Peterson was killed in a shootout with law officers Sunday afternoon after negotiations for his surrender failed, officials said. The town's mayor said Tyler was killed by a SWAT team sniper.

The dead and wounded were all students or graduates of Crandon High School, and Peterson was a graduate of the school, which has a little more than 300 students.

Witnesses said the victims ranged in age from 14 to 20, and one was apparently Peterson's former girlfriend.

Peterson's family, in a statement read by Bill Farr, a pastor, expressed condolences to the victim's relatives and said they could not find any reason for the killings.

"We are grieving for your losses. We are very sorry for what has happened. This huge tragedy has deeply affected everyone, including us. We also feel a tremendous amount of guilt and shame for the horrible acts Tyler committed. This is not the Tyler we knew and loved," the statement read.

Jenny Stahl said her daughter, Lindsey, was the youngest victim.

"I don't want to believe it. I'm waiting for somebody to wake me up," she said. "She's only 14 -- she'll be 15 next month; she's just starting to live. And the sad thing is who killed her -- a cop. Cops are supposed to always protect you, I thought, and it's one who took my daughter and how many other people's lives."

It was the high school's homecoming weekend.

Friends of the victims said Peterson also worked part time as a Crandon police officer.

Residents near the scene of the shooting told the Associated Press it was hard to accept that a police officer was the shooter.

"The first statement we said to each other was, 'How did he get through the system?' " David Franz told the AP. "How do they know somebody's background, especially that young? It is disturbing, to say the least."

The town's schools were closed Monday, with grief counselors available to students, said Superintendent Richard Peters.

"This was the kind of scenario where every small town in the USA says, 'This could never happen here,' " Peters said.

Crandon, a town of about 2,000 people, is 220 miles north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Crandon Mayor Gary Bradley said the town will work together to get over the tragedy.

"There's a lot of people weeping and gnashing their teeth and the emotions are very raw right now," Bradley said. "But we'll rebuild brick by brick."

Forest County Sheriff Keith Van Cleve called the situation "very difficult" for his deputies and the community.

Karly Johnson, 16, told the AP she knew the shooter.

"He was nice. He was an average guy -- normal. You wouldn't think he could do that," Johnson said, adding that Peterson had helped her in a class and had graduated with her brother, according to the AP.

The state attorney general's office will investigate the case, Van Cleve said.

Kevin St. John, a spokesman for the state Department of Justice, said the agency's criminal investigation unit routinely investigates cases of a "statewide or significant nature."

'Killing style'!

Dudes, seriously if any of you think that there is even the most remote chance than an AWB II won't be coming with the new administration then let me tell you about this bridge I'd like to sell you just outside of Queens.

Dude nut bags like this are going to make us all pay in just about 24 months or less.
The only chance we have, and it's less than 50%, is that the SCoTUS will decide that the D.C. gun ban is unlawful _and_ go the extra mile to state in plain damn English to never be discussed, debated, nor overturned into perpetuity that the right to keep and bear arms as detailed in the second amendment is a human right applied to the individual (as opposed to some nebulous organized militia).

Seriously buy what you can while you can. :|

P.S. - BTW if it's found that the rifle was police issue, man oh man are heads going to roll and lawsuits abound.
Prayers to the families of the deceased and to the crazy cops chiefs too.

Wow another?

Yeah, M1A's are just to scary for us peeons to own because they fire that massave anti tank .308 that can kill 15 people from 6 miles away and shoot down airplanes.

Id love to do an M1A or M-14 but I dont know with the price of ammo for them now.

I'd pick the M1A to go away as well.

It's a military weapon and the round though of course derived from hunters is in itself scary.
I too have had the M1A of some variant on my short list of must buy rifle items...and something, anything, that shoots .308 as well.

I was checking prices on the M1A just last night and Bud's has the SA units on sale right now in the $1.2 to 2K range depending on variant, barrel length, and wood or composite stock.

Them bitches look scary as hell.
I nearly shit and pissed myself I was so damn scurrred.

anything over 10 rounds was last I recall, Since it was sooo long ago for me. ;)

The 95 AWB targeted anything with a detachable mag over 10 rounds or any guns that have moar than 2 evil things. M1A's where on then but you could use the old preban mags left over.

Last I read on the new ban it would do the WEAPONS as well as the mags That can hold anywhere from over 6 or 10 rounds would be targeted even if you cant remove the mag. So even the M1A would be out.

They learned alot from the loopholes in CA that yall are useing to write this ban and they have indeed made yet another stupid pointless ban attacking ONLY us law abiding people. They will lie and decive about anything to get it passed and not give a damn of consequences of shitting on the second amendment a second time.

Somebody should make a thread specific to this subject for those of us who aren't as savvy toward what long guns in specific are advisable buy now or regret it later type today Fed legal weapons to acquire.

The obvious first choice is a complete AR (not just the lower) as well as an AK and .50 anything if your state allows as much.
I'm thinking semi-auto shotguns with magazine capacity greater than five will get hit too. Already in MA shotguns with detachable magazines are not allowed.

Although the ban happy people will spin it, there are tons of AR15 rifles in use by the police, and this guy could have gotten to any number of weapons that are available to police. Hell the police can buy a US Govt Surplus M16 for 35 Bucks, or they used to be able to. Why can't this guy have used a different gun, like a "police style" revolver or better yet a "police style pump shotgun". The fact is that this department hired a crazy fucker and the liability is that they did not catch a nut before. Hell what is next? If a cop goes nuts and runs people over with a "police style Impala" are they going to stop Chevrolet from selling them to the public?
