Dude, I'm not going to even try to talk you out of it. More play cash and wanting to treat yourself are both valid reasons in my book, so long as your not starving yourself to do it (even then, that shows you have commitment right?).

In any case, why the 500 and not the 460 XVR? .45, .454 casull, & .460 all in the same envelope, but I'm a sucker for multi-caliber arms. But poverty is a harsh mistress.

so yeah, go for it. it's not a purchase, it's an "investment"!

:( I'm doomed.

Love the black look... Wish they made the 500 model in black!

Whats the biggest difference between the long version vs short? (in terms of feel and recoil, etc). I know the ballistics, but haven't shot both of them, only the small one. Sure, it had a lot of recoil, but it wasn't as bad as some people make it sound.

I have not shot the 4", but I have heard that it shoots softer than the fullsize because it is still burning alot of powder after the bullet has left the barrel. I would go for the fullsize and start handloading. They are fun guns to shoot

Get the Taurus Raging Bull 500. Great guns at less than half than the S&W. Just have it black chromed and you will still have way less in an equally good gun.

Well, all has been in vain... I ditched my efforts to buy my first revolver (all I have is auto pistols)... I went with my true love, the M1A, which yes, is more expensive, but I figure I'll have it forever and is way more useful than the handcannon... heheh... I don't expect any bears breaking in any time soon... if they do, I'm sure the G21 will do okay at taking it down... if not, the other 8 pistols, 3 shotguns, and 7 rifles will do just fine. ;) And if they all fail, I keep a pretty fancy butter knife handy at all times.
