As some of you may remember, I posted a while back that I recently acquired an MGC Classic Gas rifle. Now, there's some confusion as to WHAT it actually is. The seller told me it was an M16A2. The lower reciever has all the trademarks, which include "Mod. 655 Cal. 5.56" along with the serial number and all that. After doing some research, I couldn't find a pic anywhere of the Mod. 655, probably because it never entered full production. But according to Wikipedia (and other sources), the Mod. 655 was a "Special High Profile Rifle" based on the M16A1. It was designed to be a sniper/designated marksman rifle, with a heavier barrel and a scope mount that attached to the carry handle. Now, I've got a couple pics here, and from what I can tell, it has a Mod. 655 Lower reciever, an M16 style stock, an M16 (or M4?) Upper reciever (with a standard carry handle with iron sight, non detachable), and an M4 forgrip/barrel.

Pics: (Linking to them because they're huge... You have been warned.)

Full gun...

Tried to get a pic of the trades... No, I'm not a professional photographer. :p

So, is this just a Franken-gun slapped together with random parts and superglue? Or IS it an M16A2, and I'm just retarded? Or is it just what the trades say, a Mod. 655? Someone help me. :)

Hope this helps... Dug up an MGC, M16A1 product family flier.

I know it says MGC M16A1 M655 instead of M16A2, but I think I located the exact model you have from this old MGC product listing.

There is also an MGC M16A2 M723 and M725 which are carbine length A2 style but with a sliding stock.

So, It's not a franken gun from MGC, it was an actual model they built outright. Now why you have an M16A2 with M655 body and Full Stock I'm not sure. The seller may have been mistaken telling you M16A2, or the body and full stock were added. Or it could be an obscure MGC model I wasn;t able to dig onfo up on. But MGC's M16A2's line actually all say M16A2 on the body.

Actually, that helps alot... I now know that it IS in fact an M16A1 Carbine Mod.655. Mine looks exactly like the picture. :D I won't ask how you found those pictures though... I'm sure that's your secret to knowing everything about airsoft. Thanks alot. :)

More importantly? I'm currently working on installing an SRC (I know, crappy, but it was cheap) RIS kit on the front end, and I'm *thinking* about ways to get an M4 collapsable stock to work... :D As for the RIS kit, I need to get a couple longer screws, and it should be ready to go without any modifications, but the stock... I'm thinking about that one.

LOL no secret. My brother in-law in Japan used to be into MGC's but the PFC line, He still has a few and like me religiously saves packaging. Either way they both get the same ads in the packaging.

Did you notice in the other image I linked, looks like you may be able to fill with gas in the pistol grip "3Way gas Charge System". Not sure if that holds true for their M16A1 line or if the previous owner modified the gas system.

Not sure about anything on the foregrip. If what yrou trying to do doesn't work look at a Free Float RIS foregrip which doesn't rely on the outer barrel being sectional M4 style. Or a carry handle S.I.R. but I've only seen real steel version of these:

but yeah that's about the limit to my Classic Airsoft knowledge. Best place for more info is:

http://www.classicairsoft.net

More specifically if you need upgrade/repair help look up a guy named Sniperx (Paul). He and his brother own a machine shop down here and have been working on Classic Airsoft for years. He also works for Escort in Japan. Famous for their gas weapons. He also sources alot of Classic Airsoft parts for US people from local Japanese airsoft shows (Black Hole, etc).

Been to CA.net, if you read there (I don't know if you do or not) you may notice I duplicated this topic there as well. ;) As for the foregrip, I'm 99.999% sure that as soon as I get some longer screws, and a stronger spring for the Delta ring, it should work fine. (The spring on mine is a bit on the weak side) For the gas, mine was modified by one of the previous owners to be routed through the stock, rather than the pistol grip, which is partly what gave me the idea of using a collapseable stock, rather than the full stock.

Now, to just figure out a way to get a box mag and much longer barrel... :D
