The harris s-br 6-9" or s-brm w/leg notch is your best bet. Anything over 6" is uncomfortable to shoot from prone, for me at least.

I have several harris's in all sizes and they're all rocksolid. The 1 on Buddah has been used and abused for over 10yrs in sun sand mud ice snow and saltwater it looks pretty ugly but still works like the day I bough it.

If you plan to do a lot of prone shooting I highly recommend making a good sand sock.

What about Versapods? I've been looking for a bipod for my AICS I'm building and would like a Parker-Hale type attachment. The Versapod with the AI adapter and the Raptor Claw feet goes for about $240. Is it worth it?

Vostok 7,
If you're really into building a sniper rifle, check out "The Ultimate Sniper" by Maj. John Plaster. There's alot of good material in this book.

As for the bipod, I only have experience with the Harris and it's worked perfectly for years. I don't have any experience with the Parker Hale, but have heard the same thing Jeremy said is that they're heavy. A european knockoff of the Parker Hale is the Versa pod.
