Guessing by the slide design, that's a HighPoint, right? I've heard reviews from "worst gun ever made" to "amazing value." What's your take on it so far?

So far the second one. Only been to the range once and my dad has some other off brand 9mm and, other than only having a six round clip, mine is much better than his. I got it at a gun show so i got a ton of stuff with it.... So yes amazing value. (so far)

Watch the gun is all I am saying. I have seen 2 or 3 with cracked slides, and sometimes the pins have a tendancy to walk themselves out.

Worst gun ever made would be Jennings/Jimenez. Hi Point is meh. Its the best crappy gun. Ok for beginners but I would have gone with a Bulgy Makarov or Star BM used instead. Just examine the gun when you clean it for cracks.

Glad to hear you're having good luck. I'm one who's always the optimist and looking for a good deal, so it's nice to see you've found one in the HiPoint (like you say, so far.) But for future reference, what modern pistols use for ammo retention is called a magazine, not a clip. Don't mean to nitpick, but other gun nuts out there will use that discrepancy to belittle you in some argument or conversation, so better to nip the mix-up in the bud now.

Attaboy! Well done! :D

Nice gun, hope it serves you well. Don't forget to practice a lot with it!

p.s. I can read your name and address from one of those pics

I think he means the envelope with the return address label on the last pic? I looked at it, because I live in AZ and was curious. ;)

I could have bought that gun but I decided to go out for dinner and a movie instead.

LMAO! :D

Yeah, I almost bought that pistol at a local store when I was buying my Glock 21 a while back... It was on sale for like $99 or something... Came with 1 magazine and some weird off brand holster (which I would have never used)... Instead I bought a bunch of .45 ACP ammo since it was also on sale. I'd like to shoot one just because I'm curious but don't think I'd ever own one...

A wise man once told me "NEVER, EVER trust your life with a "cheap" gun"

Its great that you got a cool beginner gun, it will be the prelude to much better things... I'd take Adlers advice and becareful with it... If you intend to just target shoot and stuff, it's fine (as it is probably more reliable than my old Sig), but I would think twice before trusting my life with it (defensive pistol). For that I'd look into getting something a little more reputable... (Or just get a pump action shotgun like a remington 870 for defense, that is one gun that will NEVER fail you) and you can have the pistol for target shooting. :)
