I just bought a remington 870 express and my roomates expressed some concern about me getting a safe. I only intend on having this gun and I am looking for a cheap safe that does the job. I gont need a 16 gun safe, I have found 5 and 8 gun safes that seem to do the trick but could even go smaller. The cheapest price I have found is an 8 gun safe at Sports Authority with free shipping and thats $199. Does anyone know of any cheaper safes as I would only like to spend around $100 total. This might be impossible. Thanks for the help in advance. Can you get used safes for cheaper? I wouldnt really imagine much cheaper.

Why do they not trust themselves around the firearm? Are they maybe projecting feelings that they cannot consciously accept? Or are they super immature, do you trust them around a firearm?

Is the shotgun for home defense? If so...and this is just my $.02....I wouldn't lock it up. The time it takes for you to fumble with the lock on a cheap ass safe could mean life or death.

I have my gun “collection” locked up...my home defense weapon is in a ready posture.

It shouldnt matter why they are asking me to lock it up. In my opinion it is their right to know if I have a gun in the house that we are jointly living in and paying for. And it is also their right to request that I lock it up. We are college students living in a college town. If I was in their position I would do the same thing. The shotgun is not for home defence.

Why specifically a safe? I live in similar conditions and currently all non-defensive firearms are in their cases w/ trigger or cable locks as to restrict their use; while the bump in the night pistol is in a touchkey safe (that I spent<$150 on btw). I'd rather save my money for now and splurge on some huge ceramic-tiled fireproof cube when I'm more settled.

IMHO, if you really trust your roomies enough not to seal yer shit, a triggerlock (available free from most gun stores) is plenty secure, so long as the weapon is out of sight. I don't think you'll find anything in the $100 range that will secure your possesions that won't be able to be ripped apart with a crowbar as with these things you really do get what you pay for...

-----it is your right to not have to lock it up.-------------

with that said, a cheep safe is not worth the money,
invest in a strong cable lock from the bicycle shop of your choise.
what would lock up a three thousanded dollar bike can lock up a three hunderd dollar gun.

I got a safe at Walmart, it does its job, big enough for a few rifle and a few handguns. I would highly suggest a safe, if you have alot of people coming thru your house, have parties or have people that you don't really know well, then it is your responsibility to make sure your firearm is secure

I second the cable lock idea. Slap it on and put the gun under your bed or in your closet. My roomies actually liked the idea of a defensive gun in our college town........so I bought 26 more and a couple safes. :)

I use a DAC sport safe for my defensive hand guns. 4 digits and the door will spring open. It doesn't just open, it is literally on a spring. I keep the 10mm and the .357 locked up in it. It is ALMOST as fast as simply pulling open a night stand drawer. It also comes with a key lock for those “just incase” alien/zombie invasions where electronic devices stop working.
