Holster? Pocket? Inside the pants? Ankle?

I've been just keeping my 92 inside my pants hung on my belt on the side/back of my right hip. Mainly because its my only pistol right now(want an XD) and I think the holsters for it are too big.
Am I in the wrong?

Im going to do shoulder harness since I tend to wear an overshirt or jacket alot. For those hot and humid iowa summers I might not carry the Cougar, and use a Walther pp inside the pants where I carry my other PP

I am in VA so I have been tucked with a Jacket for the past few months, and we are required to be "open" if the establishment serves alcohol for consumption on site, so the OTWB holsters are easier.

for example - i am a pretty by the book kinda guy, however the local merchants such as costco have now posted "no weapon" signs.

now i cannot stop shopping there, at least not yet, but i have written a letter to the costco corp office.

No, it is not a good thing...in fact it's stupid not to mention impractical.

The law in VA requires as much not just at bars but at _any_ public establishment that sells alcohol from TGI Fridays and Applebees to Chez Spendalots where one might take their family or business associates for a bite to eat.

Additionally as per how the law is written in VA if you posesses a VA 'Concealed Handgun Permit' then the law says that any firearm carried must be kept concealed. Well that directly conflicts with the alcohol establishment rule and the law of open carry, which is allowed and specific to those who _do not_ possess a CHP. The two are directly conflicting.
During my VA CCW class at the NRA HdQ our class instructors whihc included all police current & former all suggested that if we do decided to apply for a CHP to never ever get caught carrying openly in a restaurant or otherwise establishment that sells alcohol becuase it is at the officers discretion to cite one for being in violation of the the above legal conundrum. If he felt like being an ass he could cite you for disturbing of the peace or even brandishing even as open carry is VA legal and at times required by law. Beyond that having a CHP as noted does not allow one the right of open carry (on the app you actually have to sign toward knowledge of this) so again the officer could choose at his discretion to charge you on DoP or brandishing while in possesion of a firearm. Thats a felony in VA and bing your CHP goes up for review...

When in VA I never carried openly, for a number of reasons including it's just not a bright idea, and at places that sold alcohol I either avoided them, left my CCW locked in a container in the car, or went in concealed and left upon finishing my food...never ever ordering anything with an alcohol content.
By law the latter is breaking the law even as it's the most sensible and logical action to take.

I really like how the LTC laws approach this in MA as they do not at all limit such stuff as one can carry practically anywhere including into restaurants, nightclubs and bars, which I do and don't think twice about now.

I purposely don't look for notices & signs toward denial of weapons so that I can maintian plausible deniability...if by very odd chance I am somehow discovered, and asked to leave.
The only store I'm aware of, only because it was pointed out to me by Mrs. Janq, is the no firearms posting at our local Whole Foods Market.
I ignore it although I don't go in there but rarely.

It's really handy to be able to carry in an alchol serving establishment.
For example I like to play pool. I suck at pool but I very much enjoy the pasttime. To find a pool hall they almost always are in places that are not next to the governors mansion if you catch my drift and they _always_ serve alcohol be they bars or even dedicated poolhalls. Same goes for bowling. I love to bowl for recreation and have never seen a bowling alley that didn't serve alcohol.
Going back to my car to unload it and lock it up is not only impractical (I've tried it multiple times while in VA) but is also dangerous opening the door for handling error. Not to mention what if my car gets broken into or stolen?
Not to mention I know of no family restaurants that do not sell alcohol.

It's most safe, practical, and reasonable to keep ones arm on their person and to choose not to drink which isn't exactly hard to do.
Folks (in VA) act as if alcohol is impossible to deny and that being around it is a guarantee toward one choosing to embibe.

well - just forgot about an hour ago



had to get the little mccrackin baseball pants, socks and belt - i picked up some new runing shoes and a $20 glove to boot (left my glove back east many years ago)

after the sporting goods shopping adventure the family stopped to have a late lunch - sat strong side inside the booth next to little mccrackin as not to draw any attention, plus gave me the ability to keep little mccrackin in-line

The one time when I do disarm is if entering the home of of my inlaws or some other persons residence.

My inlaws know I carry but they are anti and assuch I respect them by not carrying or bringing stuff within their home. I just doesn't feel right, or rather would feel wrong.
I had a neighbor late last fall run up on me while I was out walking my dog, and carrying, who asked for me to come in and sit to for a cup of tea. She's an old lady and is very nice that I normally chat with and up to then would have done as much no problem. I tried to beg off saying now I got to go but she insisted and practically grabbed my arm.
As it turned out her husband, also really nice, was on travel for a few days and she was just feeling lonely. I sat on her couch sweating bullets nervous as hell.

Last December I was at the movies and ran into some family friends of Mrs. Janq's people. The husband shook my hand but the wife she went in for the hug. OH NOSSSS!!!1! I was carrying OWB at the kideny via my Beltster and had a spare mag on my left hip just behind the pelvis bone. When Mrs. Janq hugs me she almost always hits the grip safety making a click noise. With this lady I ducked down and came in to hug her like one would toward doing a hip toss. It was weird seeming but it's better to play it off with a weird hug than to have the latter...in the middle of the floor of a movie theater.

Active concealed carry isn't easy.

lucky for my in-law is a retired cop, not that i should have anything to worry about in his oontzy neighborhood, but he doesnt mind - better yet he never knows!

never had an instance where i was uncomfortable - in hug situations i go low, or if i miss a beat and they hit my rig, i mention something like "dang u almost hugged my cell fone right off me!....hahahahaha"

have gone to friends house's and to parties without issue - one golden rule, if i am carrying - no alcohol period! which works out as i am usually the DD anyway!

the only time i felt strange was at a funeral inside the church - now that wasnt because of a god fearing issue, rather as i was trying a new rig out that just didnt work for me.

I was working it FBI style, but I recently tried strongside and have decided never to look back. It is way easier in 99% of body movements and positions, especially with a service size XD45.

As far as being super descrete, that is important, but all of my close friends and relatives know that I'm a gun-nut. Thusly, I could care less about being discovered. Also, in NH AFAIK (I guess I should research this) the law is the same as driving. IE, if you have had too much to drive, you have had too much to carry. I've never pushed this, and have been told this by multiple people, but have never looked at the books myself. I will have to make a note of that...

As far as places barring the carrying of weaponry, I have never heard of it in my state, probably because we have a legal statewide resident grant for open carry. The only place I can't carry is federal property here. Live Free or Die!

Heh. I know your guys' pain. I was in a theater once, and after the movie was done, I got up, only to have my Glock 23 fall from it's OWB holster, which had conviently canted with the thumb snap apart. THAT took some explaining, due to the janitor who spoke .03% English.

I still have the OWB holster, but I haven't worn it since. I have IWB, cross draws, shoulder leather, and my favorite, the clipdraw.

You'll never guess who makes that OWB. I was kinda shocked that it happened, but hey, it is called an accident for a reason.

BTW on another totally unrelated note Mrs. Janq just apprised me that our annual health insurance policy review and increase is coming forth in june.
