My vote goes with the Sig. I couldn't tell you why, but any Sig I've ver handled has always felt naturally more comfy for me than any HK I've ever handled. SInce both have very good known reliability, I have to give the most comfortable one the nod.

HK is way too expensive for what you get to be honest. They shot nice but polymer guns are cheap to make since the molds last forever and dont wear out like milling machines so they should be about the price of a glock.

That's the only thing I can think of that I don't like about H&K. They're one of the top firearms manufacturers in the world as far as quality, but they make you pay out the ass because of the name that's stamped on it.

They seem to forget that they themselves are nothing more than the bastard child of Mauser. After the war the French carried off half of the Mauser works in Oberndorf and Heckler and Koch kind of slimed their way in and actually got their start thanks to CETME in spain gratning a licnese to make the G3 and their pistols began as nothing more than a Mauser HSC in a crappier form as the HK4.

If I want to pay through the nose for a gun I would buy a luger...atleast it will always hold its value.

I had a USP compact but traded it in for my 1911. It was a good gun, never had any problems with it at all. My only gripe is that it would rub my hand a little raw in 2 places if I shot a bunch of rounds through it in one day. I had the model with a safety. The safety size and placement put it in position to rub the side of my thumb. Also the mag release in the rear of the trigger guard would get me. Only happened after a lot of shooting.

Another buddy of mine got a Sig 226 at the same time and it was a great gun too. I'd probably go for it over the USP if I did it over again. Course I like the 1911 better than either.

One thing I LOVED about my HKs were the mag releases. I loved that they were on both sides. I shoot righty, but often shoot off-hand for training and doing off-hand reloads is infinitely faster with a dual sided mag release...
It also made regualr reloads faster as well as I didn't have to adjust my grip to hit the release with my right trigger finger while I stripped the mag with my left hand..

Oh, and polygonal rifling FTW!

If you would like to rent a pistol before buying. Try DFW guns in Dallas, its off I-35E and mockingbird. They have a nice selection of handguns plus you can rent class III weapons.

Both great guns I have a USP, a P2000 and a Sig 226. I would recomment looking at the P2000 because the 229 and the P2000 are closer together than a USP. The P2000 comes with DOA or SA/DA

I will say I prefer my HK a little more. I have an HK shotgun and 2 rifles, and the quality is just amazing.
