Mesa police say a man tried to pull a 15-year-old girl into his vehicle Saturday night, but the girl resisted and managed to run away.
The teen had just left a party at a friend's house and was walking and listening to her iPod when a man in a green sport utility vehicle drove past her and yelled out the window, asking if she wanted a ride, police said.
When the girl said no, the man made a U-turn and drove by her again. He then made another U-turn and pulled alongside her. "He stops his car, gets out, opens up the back door, grabs her by the wrist and tries to pull her in," said Mesa police spokesman detective Jerry Gissel. The girl then kicked shut the SUV's door, pulled away from the man and ran down the street.
Gissel said the incident didn't stop there. While she waited to cross a street, the man pulled up near her again and asked a second time if she wanted a ride. The teen then ran home, and the man drove off. "Thank God she broke away from this guy and ran down the street," said the girl's father, who asked not to be named due to the nature of his job. "I could hear her running up the driveway and beating on the door."
Mesa Police said the girl gave them a good description of the man.
He is described as white or Hispanic, 35 to 40 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighing 140 pounds with dark skin, short black hair, brown eyes and no accent. His left eyebrow had a possible scar that divided the eyebrow in two.
The SUV may have been an older-model Chevrolet Blazer, with four doors and an uncovered spare tire on the back, police said.

A federal corrections officer is being held in a special cell in Maricopa County Jail on multiple charges of child molestation after allegedly luring his victim with his Wiccan religion.
Loren Samuel Williamson, 33, is being held without bail on four counts of sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of child molestation.
Phoenix police arrested Williamson on Wednesday in the 1700 block of East Union Hills Drive.
Investigators said Williamson has been molesting a 12-year-old female victim over the past six years since she was about 6 years old.
Police said they are not aware of any other victims but are asking anyone with information about the case to call its Crimes Against Children Unit at 602-534-3200 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS, 480-TESTIGO (in Spanish).
Williamson was involved with the Wiccan religion and he may have used it to attract the interest of young girls.
He is being held in a segregated cell in the Maricopa County jail because of his job working with prisoners.
