Alright, I've made up my mind... The hand cannon has to wait.

Im a little out of the loop when it comes to the newest M1As... I'm looking for something that can have a scope mounted easily, etc. School me!

btw, I'm DEF getting a JAE100 stock for it. I can't wait till its complete!!! Muhahah!

I'll post pics from my gals' camera... She has some crazy DSLR with 21000 megapixles (read: 13mp)... so yeah. Man, I haven't been this stoked in a long ass time! :D I'm so excited! And I just cant hide it!! I know, I know, I know....
i feel ya on this purchase bruce... its how i felt about mine. you are still going to have to cough up $250-$300 for the scope mount + rings + bipod adapter + bipod :)

i have the yhm bipod adapter ($30) on another rifle, it works great but is not quick detach. if you want quick detach, check out the larue tactical ($79) model.

ill save you some trouble on the scope mount... here are your options

you are going to want to go with a smith mount (all are steel) or the titanium from sadlak. stay as far away as possible from the springfield gen 3 mounts.

the sadlak titanium is supposed to be nice too, but its not steel.

for rings, i am going with TPS and would recommend them for your gun. i have read tons of good things about them.

if you are going with a jae100 stock, you dont need to worry about the cut through the scope mount to use the irons because you will not be able to see them with the cheek rest on. still, most of the mounts have the cuts as a standard feature.

sorry for the long winded post... i have been doing my research and putting mine together for a while now. let me know if you have any more questions.

Yes he has! Been doing alot of research on what to buy on an M1A that is.
Man, I'm so damn excited. Thank you Global for the information, very helpful indeed.

Man, this is going to be such a nice rifle... Especially with the stock, bipod, and the scope I have mounted to it. W000000000t!

Looks like I'm getting a loaded model for a pretty damn good price of $15**!! w00t.

Adler, I would have went through you, but I want it NOW! :D And plus, my friend is hooking me up fatty.
the loaded is what i went with for my JAE100 build...you won't be disappointed. best bang for the buck.

if you can excercise some patience, CA loaded models come up from time to time at budsgunshop for ~$1350. that's how much i paid for mine.

they have the non-CA legal model with the flash hider available right now.

good luck with the build, definitely get the right scope mount too! smith, sadlak, or maybe the A.R.M.S, or go home...
If you want a distance rifle, I hear AR-10's are the way to go.

But M1A's still kick ass.
Just played with the M25 WhiteFeather rifle... OMG... wish I had the money to just buy it.

Hands down, one of the best feeling rifles I have ever held... I was comparing it to the standard M1A (which is crazy easy to take apart), to the super match, to this. OMG.

Sorry, all I had on me was my camera phone.

Looks like the old dude is about to be taken out. lol

i dont know - i shot the hell out of debuttkrackens DPMS AR-10

its heavy and was prone to jam

i think the m1a is the right way to go - or go all out bolt action
I just want to know what store that is, looks like a nice selection. :)

And yeah, it doesn't look like the old guy isn't going to last much longer. lol
It's Reeds Sports Shop in San Jose. They also have a Reeds Indoor Range right across the street from Airsoft Extreme off 101. :D

Def one of the best stocked gun shops ANYWHERE. That's just a small taste of their shop. They have EVERYTHING. Too bad they are expensive though... That is, unless you go on a day where everything in the store is like 10% off. Then its all good. :D

458 Socom is for the AR platform only and is not a long range round. It is a heavy, slow moving, short to medium range manstopper. If you want a long range gun then you are looking for something in 308, 6.8, 6.5 Grendel and so on. Personally I am a FAL or G3 type guy for a fullsize battle rifle.
Its not exactly short range, I honestly can't remember the last time I tried to shoot something more then 150 yards out. If your punching holes in paper from 1,000 yards then sure, but for hunting (mainly what I would use it for) I don't think it would be a problem. I'm just looking for other platforms that aren't the AR. Nothing wrong with an AR, just looking at "options". But thank you for the information, I may end up with just a 308 anyhow since I have some positive experience with it. :D
JAE100 stock & M1A FTW!!!!

I've been saving for mine for a few months. Hope to get them around the first week of feb'08
i have the loaded model with the carbon barrel and synthetic stock. i bought it when springfield had the scope package/cheap folding knife deal. I think for $150 more I got the scope mount, rings and their 6x40 govt scope. I have not mounted the scope. give me a buzz if you want to play with it.

The 458 or 450 from Bushmaster, like so many 45 caliber slugs has a terrible ballistic coeffecient and tends to have a very arch like trajectory. Its really very similar to a 45-70 in the way it performs at range. It is really a brush gun caliber that wont buck in the wind, go through heavy brush without deflection, and still deliver good terminal performance at medium range. The 6.5 grendel would be my choice for an AR long range caliber aside from the AR 10 in 308.
