Alright, I've made up my mind... The hand cannon has to wait.

Im a little out of the loop when it comes to the newest M1As... I'm looking for something that can have a scope mounted easily, etc. School me!

I don’t currently have a long distance rifle, and I want the M1A to be it. So, I’m gonna go for the one that is helpful on the budget, ready for things like a bi-pod and scope.

Which model do you guys recommend. I want it to be black.

All are good, but I would lean toward the national match setup since you are looking for more long range accuracy.

Well, I really want the M1A loaded model with the front accessory rail.

Anyone know about these? The local gun shops dont carry them for some reason, and one gun shop looked at me like I was crazy. Basically the Socom II, but with the 22" barrel.

you can buy the SA loaded model and put the accessory rail on it if you really want to. i chose not to on mine and am modeling it around the m21.

just realize this... a good scope mount is ~$250-$300 (sadlak or SEI), plus rings, plus bipod install (harris nut plus bedding it in the stock), plus bipod, plus cheek riser :)

oh and all the cleaning stuff... you are at about $600-$700 in add-ons before you purchase the scope!

btw, it is an awesome rifle and a lot of fun to shoot. i say you should go buy one tomorrow.

How hard is the rail to install on the M1A? I want it to look like the one Gun-Nut posted.

Can a bi-pod be installed without any modifications to the standard (non-rail) M1A? I already have a nice scope for it, just need the mounts... Dont really need the rails, just would like them. Basically just want a national match version with a bipod and scope.

458 Socom is for the AR platform only and is not a long range round. It is a heavy, slow moving, short to medium range manstopper. If you want a long range gun then you are looking for something in 308, 6.8, 6.5 Grendel and so on. Personally I am a FAL or G3 type guy for a fullsize battle rifle.

Hmmmm, I enjoy the .308, and have used my cousins M1A, but would just like a little more ... seems I always want a little more.
How do I buy that rifle? It's just an M1A with a different stock, right?

How much does it cost? Where is it available? Etc. Etc.
