no one here likes Glocks.

My friend was set on getting an HK USP Tactical (He lives in Vermont) but I talked him into getting a Glock 21 instead. He's a pistol n00b and just wanted the HK because of the name, nothing else really... I basically explained that the HK was $1,200 Vs. $500 (Glock), so the HK better damn well give me 2 times more pleasure than the G21 for that damn price... I could buy a custom 1911 for that! After all, it is a polymer pistol with some extra features that isn't as reliable as it's Austrian friend Glock.

My Tactical ran over 8k rounds without one issue, and the ability to carry L&C or decocked is a great option, as is a the increase accuracy from the o-ring and a threaded barrel, adjustable sights are quite nice also, plus a match trigger. Thats where the price difference comes from

And I don't know of any quality custom 1911 for $1200

Indeed, they are nice pistols as I justed to be a SIG and HK man myself. I wet my self every time I saw an HK Tactical (they are illegal in CA) I had an oppertunity to buy one without a threaded barrel and passed it up because of the price... $1200 on the low side. I'd much rather get an M1A or something. I just can't justify spending over like $800 for a pistol... I mean, does it really cost that much more to make? No. You're paying for a name and that's what I hate. Sure, with Glock you still pay for the name, but the pistols can be had for under $500 which is reasonable to me. I'd like to get a Styer M9 as my next pistol... Mainly because I already have 5 glocks and I want to switch it up a bit... Even though the Styer is pretty much a glock with some added comfort features.

For a polymer pistol, there's no way I'm going to spend $1200+, simple as that... I just can't do it... It'd be like a personal sin. lol (Unless it was some spectacular custom insane pistol)...

My main gripe in this post is that HK is way too over priced. (and the sights are terrible unless you get night sights)

Shit, where do you guys shop. I paid $950 for my USP Tactical, brand new. Still expensive, but not as expensive as the prices I'm seeing quoted. Guess I just live in a cheap place for guns, or something.

BruceLee,and myself, live in the SF Bay Area of CA, a notoriously expensive area to purchase firearms. This is especially true of guns like the USP Tactical as it is not on the CA 'approved' list and as such can only be purchased face-to-face via a PPT from someone who had owned it out of state and brought it into CA when they moved here (and even then we need to purchase an additional non-threaded bbl to make it leagal). That makes 'unapproved' guns very rare, and the sellers know this. It is not uncommon to see 50%-100% markup on USED firearms just because the private seller knows that the gun can not be purchased new in CA and that the buyer has little choice.

I used to not like glocks at all, then I shot a G26, and man I was more accurate with that thing, even though it felt just awful to shoot.

Then I tried out a G19 3rd generation in a local shop, and it felt blocky, but okay. I liked the rep for reliability, and I needed a 9mm, so I bought it. It has definitely entered into my carry rotation, which consists of either a j-fram S&W model 38 bodyguard, a Colt Defender, or the G19. The trigger and grip are not as pleasant as a nice 1911 or some other guns, but it's definitely workable for me, and I feel just fine carrying it. The Colt Defender conceals better and packs more of a punch, though.

jamz, the G26 is the best glock 9mm IMO. i like it because of its size and you can always add a bigger mag to it as in it takes the G19 and G17 mags... also, you can use the glock 33 round mag too... cannot go wrong with the G26 and federal hydrashock bullets...

I used to be a fan of Hydrashocks but have seen some tests that have made me switch my opinions.

In this test for example the Hydrashocks did not always reliably expand. I have become a Corbon and Speer convert as of late. Although I love Federals new series of expanding FMJ ammo. Great for older Autoloaders without ramped barrels such as old 1911s, Hi Powers, and P38s.

Kind of off topic, but if you want to have some fun testing penetration of different rounds, I've got a fun suggestion (sadly I've done this). You get yourself: 1 pig corpse (pig skin is really tough when it's a freshly dead pig), 1 bottle of Tannerite hidden in random location inside pig corpse, 1 high powered rifle, and a friendly competition with some friends. You'll not only learn what different rounds will do to a fleshy target, but eventually get rewarded with an explosion and chunks of pig flying all over the place (only fun if you're doing it on your friend's property).

For out and out stopping power the Lyman devastators hp's are hard to beat, If you need a little slower expansion in the larger calibers stick a thumbtack in the end and it delays the expansion and then frags the bullet. The tacks also work in softnosed rounds, doesn't leave enough of the bullet to even thinking about identifing it.

Don't ask the questions going through your head lol

OMFG HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAhahahahahahhahaha

Possibly the best suggestion I've ever heard! :D

Some guns are almost works of art. I own a couple of those. Others, like the Glocks are strickly business. I have either had a malfunction, or witnessed a malfunction of a pistol made by just about every major manufacturer, except Glock. I've read on these forums that some have had problems. But most tell about putting thousands and thousands of rounds through them without a hitch. That's been my own personal experience. I had a G17, and still have my G26. Many thousands of rounds through both, and never a problem. I cannot say that about any other auto I've ever owned. So, if I carry an auto, it's my G26.

I saw a pretty good signature on another forum. This isn't a perfect quote, but it was something like:

You show your Colts & Kimbers to your friends. You show your enemy a Glock.
