Well kinda hot on the heels of the HK416... At least a copy of the technology to an extent.

The Bushmaster Gas Piston Carbine finally released.

Is it worth $1800 for a Bushy??? I won't know until they do a local demo day ;) This is 1 of those situations where it may be best to not be an early adopter.

As of the last Shot Show I know that Colt and DPMS will have their versions out soon.

Theres a conversion kit (G-35) for regular AR's made by Ares Defense, although I don't know to much about the reliability of the kit. Its only suppose to make like a .5MOA difference. However, i dont think it fits most railed fore-ends with out modification.

i have an ares kit sitting on my desk right now and if it were my money, i'd rather spend it on porn.

and orca, HK didn't come up with anything revolutionary with a piston AR. There have been piston ARs as long as there have been ARs.

it KINDA works like this

http://science.howstuffworks.com/machine-gun4.htm

so, the gas that moves the assembly that loads the next round, is IN the upper reciever and gets filled with the gas and gunpowder and carbon every time you pull the trigger.

the new hotness has an isolated chamber for those gasses to expand far away from the upper receiver and the rest of the mechanical good'ness. instead, their is a rod that runs the length of the barrel and is sealed off from the gasses in the chamber, the rod moves the assembly that loads the next round instead of the gas directly. like in this system

I clicked on the link, but could somebody explain to me how this is different from how current ARs work? I thought that all gas operated guns work like this one does.
well if you look at that drawing and an AR-15 bolt and carrier, you're essentially looking at the same thing. the bolt acts like a piston and the carrier acts like the sleeve/cup around it.

the problem with a lot of the 'solutions' to the dirty AR is that they either destroy accuracy or they don't work well/break. even the infallible HK has problems with their gas pistons bending.

if you want a new gun, make a goddamn new gun. quit dicking with the AR just cause it's 'what ya got'
