Well not really since the 5.7 is more accurate than the 9mm, kicks less, and weighs less. You get rifle liek accuracy at 200yrds with the round. And....if you can ever get teh real 5.7 load it penetrates body armor much better.

The 9mm conversions arent that cheap most of the time and they are used for more swat type operations, not to save money on ammo for practice. The 223 is just as cheap if you shop around.

practically any high velocity spitzer round will penetrate body armor. it's not really anything special unless its a sidearm capable.

you could probably load 17 hmr with the same results for muchmuchmuch less.

why would you want 9mm AR for swat operations? a standard subgun will do everything it can but probably be twice as compact. i know that 5.56 with a short ass barrel is LOUD and FLASHY but I'd still prefer that.

if it sounds like i'm ragging on ARs and the 5.7.... well i am. i think they're both 'meh'

it is sidearm capable with the FN pistol. The reason they use 9mm ARs is the fact that they have the same platform for their subgun and rifle without the need to train on 2 platforms like an AR and a HK MP5. And the Ars made originally for 9mm are usually quite compact with a barrel in the neighborhood of 7 inches. Also you dont have the risk of overpenetration due to the 5,56 round in a crowded room full of hostages.

I hate the AR as well but im just giving you the accepted reasoning behind the modifications.

if you want a ar 'platform' and a >9mm round, get the Knight's PDW. ;)
