Not an exciting topic I know, but bear with me. During the last range session, about halfway throught my first box of ammo, I pick up my empty mag from the bench, and, without even looking, proceeded to feed rounds in. But the feel is not right, so I look in my hands and see that the floorplate had broken off, leaving a small remainder behind, just barely holding in the spring. Brought it in to my dealer the next day, who told me I was the third person he's seen with that problem, and that it's probably a defect.
Nows here's the question I asked him, which I in turn ask you. Do they still manufacture mags with metal floorplates? And where would I find them? The firearm in question is a P99 in .40. The impression I got from him is that the majority of manufacturers (Sig, walther, berreta, ect.) are opting to go plastic as of late (to save a few cents I guess). It's a minor thing I know but you would think at $30+ apiece the thing wouldn't fall apart in your hands.
And that's my rant/query...
