Well he can put some for sale on here obviously.

But Surplusguns.com used to have a forums section where people bought and sold their guns.

What does he have?

That serial number makes it a Winchester made M1 Carbine.

Im not a carbine expert, but the adjustable rear sight, high wood stock, bayonet lug, round bolt, and rotating safety make this a latter production carbine.

Winchester made about 14 percent of the total M1 carbines, with only Inland Division of GM making more at over 40 percent.

If it does not have import marks, the bore is good, and the stock stampings and small parts stampings match up correct for the gun, it would help the price a lot as many were overhauled and beat up.

M1 Carbines are a lot like 1911 pistols and M1 Garands in that so much of their value hinges on how original they are. So many were overhauled and/or had parts changed out. You really have to break them down and make sure all the parts markings are correct. That can be difficult since companies like Marlin made trigger assemblies for some makers and are original to the gun.

Lets just put it this way, Southern Ohio Gun sold out of beat to hell and import marked carbines at nearly 600 dollars a piece. So its worth that or more. US surplus is hard to peg and keep up on as they run all over hell as supply and demand fluctuate.
