I am currently in the market for a high-quality fixed-blade knife, preferably something smaller than a full-sized KA-BAR. Price isn't really an issue.

I am considering a few different knives, among them the SOG SEAL Pup Elite, Super SOG Bowie (aware that it is KA-BAR sized), the CRKT First Strike, and the Benchmade D2 Nimravus.

For the fixed blade lovers out there, what is your favorite and why? What do you recommend?

Thanks.

I decided to go with the First Strike. It's a really nice piece of equipment. Almost impossible to lose your grip, and nice and sharp. I now have a thing for convex blades.

I handled the Tigershark, but it just felt too.... HUGE. That thing is a beast. I'll have to add it to my collection later. :D

ive owned a few benchmade fixed blades and they dont live up to thier folders.the nimravus is a good knife but not very comfortable in the hand. i have handled a few sog kinves and they felt great. real solid.if price is no concern look at niel blackwood's fixed blades and walter brend as well.

A year later and I finally got the Nimravus. 154cm, drop point, serrated.

Feels like water in your hand. Light, sharp enough out of the box to shave with (as a few patches of skin on my arm can attest), and perfect size. I'm in love.

I'm a fan of traditional working knives of the world. Knives based on these designs have been refined and tested for generations. In terms of functionality, traditional knives usually beat the piss out of the mall ninja knives.

My top picks...
small and handy: Finnish Puukko
big and mean: Gurkha Khukuri
