Anyone know anything about the Franchi SPAS-15 (or 12)?

Anyone own or owned one? Hell, anyone fire one?

I've always like this shotgun but I don't know much about it. The Benelli M4 thread got me thinking of this.

How much do they cost, and are they legal for citizens to buy? (in CA even)

here's the Spas 12:

Here's the mag fed SPAS 15

I'd prefer the 15 because of the magazines, but I doubt they are legal in CA. :(

found a site http://spas12.com/ also just checked theres some on gunbroker right now.
its a complicated but solid design. Legal here in IA and goes used for around 700 and up. Its a pump and auto and is one of the softest shooting gas op shotguns ever made.

be sure to check your local state laws - in some states its considered a class 3 weapon like the a.k.a. street sweeper.

eitherway - badass shotty thats been around for a long time and tested tried and true

"if you have the means, i sreiously recomend picking one of these up"
I've shot one. They shoot soft, but are heavy
Switching from auto to pump isn't always that easy. Cool shotty to have, but won't be my primary.

I have always wanted one, since seeing Hunter shooting one thru the windshield while driving with the Spas hooked to the rearview mirror :D
Ahem err I can speak with authority on the spas 12 I've got one .

TheGun's post above is the only site that I've run across that is a valid resource on the shotgun.

Pay particular attention to the comments of the safety switch recall on the lever type. Re: AD's I can testify that its true!
Also o ring and recoil buffer are things to look for if your shopping for 1

Mine is just sitting for collector value. It's cool looking, different, but large awkward to use and operate. Prices go for 800 on up.
The folder is worth more and make sure it has the hook.

Benelli M-1thru- M-4 is a better value if you plan on using it.

How much does the SPAS-15 run new?
HOLY CRAP!
All the gunshows down here ive been to ive only seen one SPAS-15 and he wanted 5K for it. Spas 12's are everywhere however, I dont know about CA. They are fun to shoot...

I must say, that 15 felt nice.

"This is a shotgun, Sol."
"It's a fucking anti-aircraft gun, Vincent."

couldn't help myself. now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

I shoot with a guy that uses a Spas 15 for 3gun matches, if you watch ShootingUSA, you will see him shoot it. Apparently mags run over $600, he cuts them in half and welds together a hi-cap. I haven't had a chance to shoot it, but it suppose to be very reliable and soft shooting
I do have two Franchi shotguns(Model 500 and 48AL), both autos, and they are top notch shit equal to Beretta and Benelli. Since they are all part of the Beretta family and are made pretty much right next to each other, makes sense.

"You'll raise hell, never mind pulses."

Can you get me a SPAS-12, and send it to an FFL down here? :D I'll pay you back, of course...
One of the more popular shotguns in movies

The Terminator: 12 gauge auto-loader
Pawnshop Clerk: That's Italian. It can go pump or auto.
The Terminator: The .45 Long slide with laser sighting.
Pawnshop Clerk: These are brand new, we just got them in. That's a good gun. Just touch the trigger, the beam comes on, and you put the red dot where you want the bullet to go. Can't miss. Anything else?
The Terminator: Phased-plasma rifle in the 40 watt range
Pawnshop Clerk: Hey just what you see pal.
The Terminator: Uzi 9 millimeter.
Pawnshop Clerk: You know your weapons, buddy. Any one of these is ideal for home defense. So which'll it be?
The Terminator: All.
Pawnshop Clerk: Then we close early today. There's a 15 day wait on the handguns but the rifles you can take right now
The Terminator: (takes shotgun shells and loads gun)
Pawnshop Clerk: You can't do that.
The Terminator: Wrong (shoots clerk)

BTW the hook on the folding stock can be turned 90° and can be used to fire the gun one handed

Ugh, I held myself back from picking up a SPAS-12 the other day and a AMT Hardballer last week.

I must say, im quite proud. I think I may have overcome my addiction.
