I've used Tannerite targets, which go for about $5 a pop if you buy a box. The explosion is just a percusion, no fire or anything like that. It's a binary chemical reaction with some pretty intense force. Strong enough to rip a water heater right in half and launch it up in the air to about 20'.

They are LOOOOUD. Much louder and deeper than a .50BMG round... I'd say on par with an M-1000 firecracker.

Anyone ever use these? Or something like it? Anyone make their own using house hold chemicals?

On a side note, the tannerite targets wont go off if you hit them with a pistol round, not enough impact velocity. .223, .308, etc all will work.

oh my God, those things scared the hell out of me... those are so powerfull the cops got called on us on our 300 acre plot of land were me and some friends set off.... um.. lets just say Home made fireworks all the time. We shot that thing kinda close not expecting what happended and BOOM! threw rocks and dirt all over and scared the shit out of us. The impact was like someone punching you, I recomend these things 110%just... at 180-200 yards... I keep wanting to get more but no idea were to shoot them at.

 You can also make various fuel air exploives from products in you pantry and medicine cabinet, bottle them and put them in the cargo hold of some of the larger model rockets, launch them and shoot them out of the air with a shotgun, but I don't recommend it

growing up we had exploding targets, though they weren't as powerful as the ones you're talking about.

They were great fun though. We'd grap the Coleman fuel can as soon as it was empty, maybe a few drops in the bottom. Slap a target on it, shake the hell out of it and back off 50 feet and smack that sucker with someone's 10/22 (to make sure we got it first shot). KA BOOOOM

good times, good times...

I shot a 10 gallon bucket of tannerite, it left a 3 foot deep hole. I'll find the video for you.
You may be forced to watch a bunch of other cool shit we shot that day too. Lots of full auto stuff and a 90MM artillery cannon for example.

Ok here you go. Right click and save as please. It may take a while we had lots of cool shit to film.

I think it took 4 shots before we switched from a shooter with a suppressed .308 to the big 50. The grass down there was 6' tall the bucket was 350-400 yards out.

Enjoy - if you don't you don't belong on this forum.

A .22 will set that off? That kind of fuel should be fairly stable, tho I bet a can of starter fluid would make a nice pop.
that kind of fuel is very flammable, especially the vapors, which is why it's so good for propane lanterns and the like.

We never hd a problem with a .22 setting one off, if you hit in the bull. And we found it much more rewarding to have a small caliber shooting it, because then the kaboom isn't overshadowed by the gunshot.

The targets we used came in a yellow box, about 10 to a box. They were 2" square and about 1" deep, white face with about a 1" diameter blaze orange bullseye. They had a strip of tape-stuff on the back so you could stick them to what you wanted to blow up.
