Most of the cool mod's aren't available for Mossy guns because of the top tang saftey, it's a bit to work around and a pistol grip stock and a tang saftey is very awkward, you either need to work safe with off hand or move your hand off grip yo work it.

Todays newspaper came with a flyer from Dicks.
They have Remy 870 Express on sale for $219.98 with a $30 mail in rebate and an Express Combo for $339.98 with the same rebate.
Both are wood stock and foregrip.

I got that flyer also. Prices are a little higher this time of year on most rifles and shotguns, especially in the northeast. There is a higher demand because of the hunting seasons around here. through spring and mid summer you can pick up an 870 for 199.99 and the combo for 289 at dicks and gander mountain.

Makes sense.
I don't actively track them normally, those models. I just instantly recalled reading it over dnner and noticing the sale then hours later boom the question comes up here.
Finding an 870 is like finding a Mustang 5.0, I'd likely save myself deep coin and buy used be it online or via the local pawnshop. These things are not hard to fnd and are all over the place in circulation.

I'm trying to stock up on stuff before I move to SoCal which is in less than a month.

I've looked all over localy for a used 10/22 (to mod at a later time) and looked yesterday for a used 870. This is going to sound dumb...At each pawnshop I went to they said "As soon as we get them (10/22's and 870's), they go out the door...can't keep them in stock."

I want to buy used for these two...because they are going to be mod'ed out. How do you buy over the interweb. Do they have to go to a FFL, and if so don't FFL's have a charge for that? If so that would kill some of the savings from buying used right?

I'm not surprised they told you that.
The 870 is known for being a cheap reliable knockaround gun.

I've bought all my guns used and the latest three in a row via the web.
I've never bought a gun new.
Yes an FFL is going tobe involved but they only charge like $20 for their services, some even less so I've heard. My FFL in VA charged $20 even and would inclusive to the service include a breakdown and detailed inspection.
As for places to look aside from those on forums you can somewhat trust a site that I monitor and my former shooting buddy has had very good luck with has been GunBroker.com. Right now they have 799 open auctions on "Remington 870" across 16 pages.

you have the FFL fee plus the 25-40$ UPS/Fed-x shipping charge, so you're lookng at an extra 50-75$ onto the price of the gun. On common guns like the 870 or 10/22 you're not going to save much if any at a pawn shop, they have to make a profit also. You can buy a new 870 for 200 and i just heard an as for 10/22's on the radio yesterday; I forget who from; for 130. Newspapers are a good place to look, there are no shipping charges and since they're long guns you jut go pay the proce and get the gun.
