Well over the weekend I went to the range as it is becoming a weekly occurance and expensive habit. My Yugo AK has been shooting rather wildly over the last time or two and I think I found the problem. The barrel has a divot in it and doesn't look to good. Anyone know anything about what types of AK barrels to look into replacing it with?
The spot does not look uniform - is it the gas return or damage?
The gun is a Yugo M70 pictured in the newbie forum. Picture of barrel and what the AK and Mauser managed to do to an election sign below.

I think that hole is your gas port in the barrel, Find out where it is in the barrel and it should be right under the gas piston. Use a thin rod to put in there and get it close as you can, or take down the gas system and shine a light in the side where the gas comes out see if you can see any light in the barrel.

Thanks for the help, after posting I took apart the gas system and realized it was the gas return port. After taking apart it just had some built up grime that made it look out of shape.
Has anyone had any experiences with the Century Arms Yugo the sights have been a constant source of problems for me.
Thanks for the help

They seem to be off by a good bit high, and to right @ 100 yds and I'm not sure how to adjust the front sight on the gun. It is nearly impossible to get any decent accuracy even shooting at full size silhouette targets. It seems to be dumb luck to hit anything with it.

Can you tell if the front sight is canted? It would be bent over to the left or right, I know the pre 01 rifles they had alot of messed up sight posts.

place the gun with the sights down on a flat surface With the rear sight squarely on the surface, the front sight ears should both touch the surface, too.

If it is bent tell me, its a fairly easy fix if you have some tools.

Also to move the sights you will need a tool.

they both touch the surface but the gun seems to set a little higher on the rear sights than the front. I figured it was going to take a tool to adjust them, I might have to order one and try it out.
thanks
