I want a .22 rifle (can't beat the price of ammo) and narrowed it down to 2 choices... the Remington 957 or the Ruger 10/22....
I hear the Remington is most accurate out of the box..and the Ruger has more after market parts. Is there anything more I should know about the two? I think the price of the Ruger is a bit more.

Ruger all the way. The 10/22 is a work in progesss gun and a great place to start. The gun is made to be upgraded and almost everyting can be done by even a novice owner. There are new options coming out all the time so you can build it to look like anything you want, the only limitations are your imagination and money. There is a great feeling of pride and accomplishment when you put together with your own hands a gun the puts 10 rounds into a dime.

Alot can be done on a Ruger 10/22. Nothing wrong with other .22LR rifles made by reputable manufacturers. Just seems Ruger has the most aftermarket addons/upgrades made for it.
Thanks ORCA and all the others that gave input... the 10/22 it is!

anyone know of any good dealers in the south bay area?

Thats not a 10/22, thats the Rhineland Arms R22 and there will be a minimum of a 4 week wait. I had one on order....2 months later I cancelled it cause I am waiting for the model with iron sights to come out.

Ahh..The Rhineland Arms R22 is pretty sweet...I just check out the site, I noticed they make stock systems for the 10/22 also. I like the RB Precision Evolution Stock as well...how difficult is it to replace the stock of the 10/22?(looks like only 2 screw)

if you plan on modifying the hell out of your .22lr, i'd say skip the R22, and stick with the tried and true 10/22. i've heard too many horror stories about R22 lemons.
Those were the first and second gen R22 guns. They were magazine and ammo sensative. They have since rectified much of those problems and as long as you dont use cheap mags and stick to high velocity ammo you would be fine.
