I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway to double check myself. Will 8 round 1911 Government mags work interchangably with 7 round 1911 mags. Specifically, will the 8 round mags (Wilson Combat 47) for my Kimber Eclipse function properly with my new Kimber Royal II?

Almost certain that they will... The only thing is that they might not fit as flush as the stock mags... If all the pistols are standard 1911 size, all the mags should work (that you mentioned).

Yes.

But...If your 1911 has a full size frame then switching from 7 to 8 will result in no extension beyond the grip. I do this with my Sig 1911 interchangeably between the stock Novak/ACT 8 rd. mags and Wilson full size 7 rd. mags.

But...If the mags were designed for the shorter 'Officer' sized frame then no they will not work. I've got Wilson mags designed for my Colt Defender which runs on an shortened height Officer sized frame that will not function at all in the full size/full length Sig due to being too short.

But...If the 7 rd. mags were designed to fit a full size frame and are used in an Officer sized frame then they too will stick out on the bottom while an 8 rd. mag will stick out even further. I as well have mags that fit this situation too.

Myself I CCW one of two Officer sized 1911s (SA and Colt) and I insert a 7rd. flush fit for Officer mag. and carry a spare 8 rd. mag as designed for a fullsize.
Sometimes I'll run an 8 rd. mag (Chip McCormick) in the carry but that is when wearing a jacket/coat or some other heavy clothing applicable to fall/winter.

Be sure to know what size frame your gun is (Fullsize/Govt. or Officer) and be sure to know what size the mags are designed for be they 7 or 8 rd.
BTW there are 10 rd. 1911 mags as well but I haven't ordered a set yet. Oh, and both sets of my 8 rd. mags have been 100% reliable with no feeding issues.

It's most definitely a Government size pistol. It just has a 7 round government sized magazine rather than an 8 round. I couldn't really say much for how fulsh the fit is in that the mags 8 Wilson Combat 47 mags all have the rubber base pads on them. I'll try them out when I take the Royal to the range this week.
